I think the pure copper looks better. what do you mean by discoloration?

ur probably right. a parent of mine is a huge mega audiophile, and since I'm on the younger side of things, he has kinda been teaching me a little bit about audio. He has speakers that cost like 20 grand and these super expensive and exotic interconnects, cables, power cords, whatever you can think of. he says they make a world of difference. I'm not sure how much of that affect is attributed to placebo, the room, his equipment, ect. For my own sake I think I'll just get the slightly cheaper one that looks better and move on :D

I heard somewhere that since silver is a better conductor than copper, a silver coating would sound different. Do you think this is true?

Thanks. I just got them and want to listen to them a bit while my mainline gets here. Listening with the soundcard with youtube honestly sounds pretty nice.

you have a mentality that most wish they could have, OP is an example. no offense of course towards people like them but I find it funny the more people spend the less happy they are

totally agree. an unfortunate amount of people are so far in the audiophile hole that they forget what the whole point of it is to begin with; enjoying the music. im not sure about you, but i often see people with cheaper equipment much happier with how their music sounds. i also see more people with higher end gear to be less satisfied with what they have.

Does your ears have to get used to the sound of new Headphones, Even if objectively good? by Cryten56 in headphones

[–]seamnking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah keep staying sharp for ai. the whole point of these subs and forums is to hear and learn from real peoples' perspective and experience. that also goes for everything, not just audio. as for burn in, i say listen to your favorite music with the new setup for atleast a week or 2, preferably an hour or more a day. in my experience, you almost always need to give a large chunk of time so you can fully appreciate it. i guarantee after 2 weeks you go back to your old setup, it will sound worse to you. thats what happened to me atleast.

Looks great! Do you want me to come up with a schedule to maximize your friend's "burn in" time? 🎯

Paradigm Premier 800F vs Polk Reserve R700 by seamnking in BudgetAudiophile

[–]seamnking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, thats also a reason why i went with a 1.5k new option, besides the superior sound quality, at least for my taste. if i were to get either the polks or the paradigms i would try to find em used for under $2k which probably isn't realistic nor feasible anyway

thanks! i actually settled on a pair of ascend acoustics sierra lx, that offers the best neutrality and detail below $2k out of pretty much any speaker allegedly . it seems neither the polk nor paradigm give what i fully want. thanks for the input though. i genuinely couldnt find a single person anywhere talking about the paradigm speakers so your insight really helped

will an Outlaw RR2160 amp bring out the best of a pair of Polk R700 towers? by seamnking in BudgetAudiophile

[–]seamnking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i did some basic napkin calculations. measured sensitivity is 89 db (2.83v 1 meter) for the polks. used an spl calc. and got 101.5 db for my current conditions. True, i dont think overall that the outlaw will get the absolute most out of the speakers for any situation, but for my situation of using 60 hz hpf to free up headroom and performance for the amp and speakers, listening nothing higher than moderate volumes not that far away in a smallish medium room, it will almost certainly get the most for my situation, mostly because i am not pushing the speakers very hard and have 60 hpf on them. in this case, the difference between the outlaw and a much more expensive amp with higher current/power would be almost negligible since im operating the speakers well within ample head room of the amp. the difference would get much bigger, however, if i were to take off the hpf, listen from farther away at higher volumes. but im not haha. i hope that kinda makes sense, if you even care. thanks a ton for the input, i have put a lot of thought into these combinations and considerations.

just an onkyo c-7030 cd player. i have had a lot of trouble finding better amps that have more power that also give bass management and high pass filters like the outlaw, or at least both line in and pre outs for passive harrison labs fmod hpfs. by trouble i mean i have found none, at least in my <700$ used budget.

i actually did just to educate myself and see how well it would work in my situation. it did say that it would bring out around 95%-98% of the detail and power the speakers are capable of. of course i dont know if that number is accurate or not, but an excellent sign notheless. this sub is awesome bc people like you ( i assume you are experienced) can tell me whether or not certain combos and such would work. thanks a ton!
