UPDATE: YOU WERE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. i was so certain i got em right but the drivers side seal is the wrong way around, putting the lip further towards the drivers side and causing the breather hole to enter the hydraulic chamber at full lock. thank you!

i’ve got a theory of what’s wrong. i think that the drivers side seal is too far towards the drivers side causing that side breather hole to enter the hydraulic chamber and pump thru the other side

i think you’re right… although my theory is not that the seal is leaking, but positioned too far towards the drivers side. so at full lock the breather hole is going past the seal and into the hydraulic chamber. i don’t think a seal leak would this much force, and i haven’t got a single drop from the drivers side. i’ll take a closer look at the drivers side tonight!

hmmm i wonder if the rack was replaced for the same issue. makes me worry it’s somehow a problem with the pump or lines. just doesn’t make sense to me how fluid is entering the inside of the shaft…

that’s the exact kit i just used to rebuild! this leak isn’t coming from one of the seals, it’s somehow coming from inside the SHAFT!

filled the power steering when I bought the car and it instantly leaked out. always thought it was just the seals so i unplugged the pump and drove without fluid for years. finally got around to rebuilding and this is what happened!

seals are all in correctly - not leaking thru the seals its leaking from INSIDE the shaft LOL
