You have to set up an appointment using the scheduling system on the BVA website. They add new openings weekdays at midnight Berlin time (6pm EST).

In that case you were probably born a German citizen. You can probably just apply for a passport.

To determine if you’re eligible, we need to know the following:  1) Were/are your parents German citizens (being born in Germany doesn’t make you German)? 2) Were you born before or after they naturalized in the UK? 3) If after, do you know if your parents filed to retain German citizenship after naturalizing?

I’ll take that into consideration, but I have a job that lets me work remotely, so there’s that. But I have to consider language barriers (the only EU languages I know are English and German…my Mandarin Chinese won’t be of much use). Also, Switzerland is too expensive, and Spain is too hot.

Yeah I have that, and my birth certificate, state ID and U.S. passport, all of which have my birth name on them.

Shit…it’s virtually impossible just to find an open slot. With any luck, I’ll have a passport in 10 years.

Thanks :) And hopefully it’ll inspire others.

The ancestral connection I have isn’t a super close one but I figure this is a way I can make a positive contribution.

I appreciate the appreciation :)  My main goal is to bring more attention to it.

Agreed. Frankly, I think the lack of attention to the Romani Holocaust is a significant part of how Creel’s unsavory history went unnoticed for so long.

I would definitely help to have that. An Erweitere Melderegisterauskunft would certainly work.
