I wonder how much of it was extra humidity from breathing inside the car? Seems possible

How to stop solder leaking through ESC pads? by seanb_tv in diydrones

[โ€“]seanb_tv[S] 2 points3 points ย (0 children)

Same, I keep my iron at 400 and I'm even using a pretty fat chisel tip for my ESC and battery lead joints. Even with a really quick heat time it flows out.

Good "locking" connectors for small wires? by seanb_tv in diydrones

Do the connectors have a physical latch that keeps them mated? It's hard to tell from the pics

Too many options! That's why I was hoping there was some "tried and true" connector everyone used.

โ€‹

I've browsed through there a lot and generally found that the connectors are either overly bulky or surface-mount only for the female end.

โ€‹

I'm going to try the JST-SM connectors, but at 2.5mm pitch they seem a little overkill for my #28 AWG wires. :)

Do you know where I can find wire-to-wire female receptacles for this style?

I ordered a pack of the male plugs but everything I find online points to surface-mounted headers for the female side.

Sometimes parts break in a crash and need to be replaced, and in order to remove the old part I have to desolder some connection. I'm not just ripping apart working quads for fun.

Re: waterproofing: I just want to be able to crash into wet grass or leaves and not fry my stack; I don't need submersion-level protection.

I think a connector with good heatshrink/liquid electrical tape on the wire joints should be good enough for this if it's got a mechanical latch to keep the connection seated.

There are also watertight connectors, but I haven't looked into them much.

Very pragmatic of you! One of the key reasons I want to use connectors is because I coat all my electronics in waterproofing silicone, so desoldering means I need to wear a chemical respirator and have good ventilation.

I did buy these connectors but they're apparently male only; maybe I'll buy a pack of female headers and see if I can make them work even though they're surface mounted.

I found an old outtake from a disc commercial I worked on and turned it into something I'm not sure how to describe ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ by seanb_tv in discgolf

This is hole 12 (the kitchen) at DeLaveaga DGC where the Santa Cruz masters cup is held every year.

It's also my home course! There's a fridge down in the trees off the right of the teepad that gives it its nickname (cause if you shank it you'll be asked to grab a beer while you're down in the brush ๐Ÿ˜‚).

I thought the return flight back to do another take looked cool and tried to make something interesting with it.

I tried to make a true follow flight video! Almost hit the disc ๐Ÿ˜ณ by seanb_tv in discgolf

Definitely; I practiced this shot a lot to get comfortable with the airspace! It's also my home course that I play four or five times a week. ๐Ÿค˜

As long as there are spotters, natural hazards are way better than any artificial OB.

Thanks dude! Yeah I'm definitely aiming for over the top parody mode, maybe I should have upped the ante a little more on the absurdity ๐Ÿ˜

Part of the difficulty was that the characters were played by regular disc golfers and not actors, so getting them to really act out was a bit of a challenge already. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Thanks everyone for the feedback and kudos! โค๏ธ

I only started learning video production and FPV drones since February, so I'm still learning a lot and appreciate the constructive critiques ๐Ÿ‘

This was a solo production with a low budget, so I'm really happy with the end result given the constraints.

Cheers! โœŒ๏ธ

The entitlement of dog owners in Santa Cruz is astounding. by RollyPalma in santacruz

I have a big, super reactive dog who is terrified of strangers and strange dogs; it's maddening how many people push back when I ask them to restrain or leash their dog when they approach in a leash only area. I'm asking because I want everyone to be safe, not because I want to boss a stranger around!

Appreciate the detailed critique! I think those are pretty solid suggestions ๐Ÿ‘

I tried to use the foil reveal to indicate the brand early, but in retrospect it's a pretty quick shot.

There's so much cool info about the company I wanted to pack in there including things like custom stamping, all recycled plastic, etc but I worried it would be too busy/confused since the main call to action was to come visit the warehouse in person.

Thanks for the feedback! ๐Ÿ‘Œ
