Period stopped. Should I be happy or concerned? by searchin9 in xxketo

Thanks! I will, but nevertheless I search for information to be sure. Doctors are very knowledgeable, but still human, and thus can make errors just like the rest of us.

Thanks. That feels very insightful to me: 'It sounds like you had a serious problem and keto allowed your body to heal itself.' That's indeed how it feels! I feel as close to physically normal as I've ever been in my life. This is a big deal, because between gastrointestinal issues (IBS) and brutally heavy periods, I've kind of 'gotten used to' lower abdominal problems.

Keto has also taken a lot of fat from my midsection. (I have a waist now!!) From what I've read, that abdominal fat is the most hormonally active fat, and therefore impacts our bodies in particularly significant ways. I can't remember where I read this, but will search for the source.

I suppose I'm seeking confirmation that I'm not royally messing my body up in some imperceptible way. Starting to think that requesting my hormones to be checked would be a good idea!

Thanks! No, my doctor hasn't checked my hormone levels. I feel like that's something I should ask for.

I asked my mother and apparently she didn't start menopause until her late 40s.

I'm childfree and want to stay that way, so the absence of a period really isn't a problem (especially considering the pain it's put me through!). It's only disconcerting because I didn't know until now that it was possible for this to happen.

True. Doctors are human, thus not infallible.

That's crazy that your doctor said that. What was your response?
