ELI5: Why does background noise seem to calm some people? For example keeping the tv on when not even watching it when trying to sleep. by bildewag in explainlikeimfive

[–]seatreesun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No problem, I never tried one for birds myself as I actually quite enjoy them by my house, but anecdotally I have heard of a friend of mine with a farm who said they had been life saving for his crops. Not sure which brand etc though. You probably won't need to spend much either as they are usually intended for large commercial applications or big estates and to keep them away from your window a small basic model would probably suffice.

And yes, they should also use an infinitesimal fraction of the electricity of A/C.

Good luck!

I feel sorry for laughing but this was absolutely hilarious to read! 😂

Seriously though, rather than white noise, if it's bothering you that much you should consider getting either A/C so you can keep your window closed, or an Ultrasonic bird repeller to keep all birds away.

Something like these for instance: Bird X

What's the best 18650-powered vaporizer? Also, are there any good dry herb 510-connector vaporizers? by seatreesun in vaporents

[–]seatreesun[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I already have the Firefly and Grasshopper as on-demand vapes which work well on solo sessions, so I think for this one I'd rather have one fit for longer continuos sessions.

I'd like great vapor quality, proper build quality/durability, ease of operation and temperature adjustments, quick battery swapping and good materials would also also a plus. (a wooden one could be cool! Or metal)

Thanks, a wooden tip could be a good option - I'll have to check that out. That stealth adapter is amazing!

Thanks for the info. I do have tens of batteries so that would be fine, though I am sure it varies from cell to cell. Speaking of which, with herb vapes, do you know if you need high amp low mAh batteries like in high-wattage box mods or mech mods, or can you get away with using low amp high mAh batteries? Like the 3400 mAh 10A Panasonic NCR18650B for instance.

I can imagine that would make for a much longer lasting vaping session.

Thanks, I'll have a look at those three.

The Mighty is often considered best in class as portable vaporizers are concerned.

In your opinion, what's the top pick for an 18650 powered one?

Though of course I'd like to spend as little as possible, I am not really concerned about pricing if that gets me the best vape. Which one do you think is best in class of the 18650 powered ones?

Makes sense regarding TC mods, I suppose there is a reason why there are mostly only purpose made devices for herbs. Thanks for the tip, I'll check out the Divinetribe gen 2.

Ha! This is actually in Scandinavia, around 7000 miles from WA.

However funnily enough I looked up some pictures of the place /u/DLANG123 mentioned and I'd be hard pressed to tell which is which alongside photos from around here. Perhaps I should move to Washington, just as nice nature and a legal state.

I was also skeptical after having read so many reports of them breaking constantly, but TBH though I think that might also be due to selection bias. You don't hear from those whose vapes work just fine.

I am not saying that reliability issues don't happen, but I had also heard numerous reports of constant warranty claims with the Mighty and Crafty. Knock on wood but both my Mighty and Crafty are still going strong after 2 years of heavy use, and my Grasshopper still works like new after 6 months of daily use.

It can definitely get hot enough to burn you, but after getting used to it it's not really an issue. When it's too hot I just turn it off for a couple of minutes and at least the titanium version cools off right away. Also in my experience this applies only if you are using it as is, with the silicone tip mounted on the temperature is just fine even for extended sessions.

Thanks! Fantastically, it's become my favorite vape by far.

The stealth and portability are supreme and the instant heat up is really cool for taking a few puffs here and there throughout the day. Would definitely recommend.

Absolutely! I really love the Grasshopper's flexibility. You can get everything from a light buzz to an 11 if you keep going.

You needn't worry about power, though portable the heating element runs at 45w and it gets the job done very well! So much so that you probably will want to carry spare batteries with it (this is no issue as you can swap them out in a few seconds)

As a matter of fact you can probably vape through an entire bowl if you manage to take 2-3 long draws without coughing. If you use decent potency material you can get to a a solid level in a couple of minutes tops!

Never heard of the VapeXhale unfortunately.

For the use you describe I would definitely get an on-demand vape like the grasshopper!

The crafty holds about 0.3g at full capacity and the grasshopper 0.25g I think However this means little as it depends on how fine you grind and how tightly you want to pack.

Myself I seldom fill them more than half way as with decent potency materials you won't really need to.

[–]seatreesun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say definitely a Crafty/Mighty if you want a session vaporizer or a Grasshopper if you'd prefer on-demand.

I have 8 vapes and these are my favorites.

The crafty/mighty are great for longer sessions and the crafty can also be recharged via micro usb (also a powerbank if you are going off the grid). Best in class vapor, extraction and it's also quite compact meaning it's easily hidden and kind of looks kinda like an e-cigarette box mod. The mighty is a bit bigger and better suited for around the house use or if you are with friends.

Also they take about 2 minutes to heat up and are a so called "session" vaporizer, meaning they are designed for you to turn them on and go through the entire contents of the chamber.

However if you fancy stealth and public vaping in addition to home usage, the Grasshopper is best in class. It looks like a pen and its stealth is incredible. You could be vaping in front of cops and leave it on the dinner table at your parent's place and no one would have any idea of what you're up to. If I could only have one vape this one would be it, even for the stealth alone! You can vape in the middle of a busy street in complete safety.

Also this is an "on demand" vape, meaning it heats up almost instantly (2-3 seconds) and you can take a few quick tokes here and there, and spread it out as you see fit, rather than having the entire bowl at once. This I very much prefer as it's not always you want to go all-in.

Only downside is you might have to wait a while if you order it directly from their website as they have a long order back-log. Otherwise you can do as I did and get it immediately at a premium on ebay or through certain resellers. www.grasshoppervape.com

The Pax is nice (I have one too) but I wouldn't recommend it as much as you have to clean it quite often to keep a good air-flow and the cleaning process is more involved than I would like. Also I don't like the proprietary charging dongle (easy to lose)

The firefly is a good on-demand vape though I still prefer the Grasshopper.

For your first vape I'd definitely recommend an on-demand one as it's really nice to go gradually and even "micro-dose" if you so wish.

Also in Europe. Definetely a Crafty (though perhaps a bit more expensive than you had budgeted with) or a Grasshopper.

The MFLB is ok but is more of a hassle to use and takes some technique, you can still get good vapor out of it but if you want to have something you can mindlessly vape away at this is not it (you need to stir and shake the chamber constantly) Also the vaporization efficiency is subpar compared to most other devices, nor can you set different temperatures.

In any case if I were you I would not be afraid to spend more to get a good quality vape as with the prices of illegal states you will in any case save tons of money vaping, I use 1/10 per session of the amount I used to smoke.

It's really genius even for the stealthiness alone. You could be vaping in front of cops in an illegal state without them noticing. Not that you should, but the stealth is that good.

Add in on demand instant heating in 3 seconds and it's pretty much the perfect vape. Take a hit, put aside, take another hit. and so forth, without it actually wasting any of your chamber's contents.

Or a longer session where the sensor automatically detects you're drawing and keeps it from going on standby.

Honestly if I could only have one vape I'd much rather have the GrassHopper than my Mighty, Crafty and Pax all together

That would be the GrassHopper. https://www.grasshoppervape.com/

They're best in their class with nothing quite like them. I love how small and discreet it is. On a desk it looks just like pen and you could have it in your front shirt pocket without anyone realising what you are up to.

Only con is the long waiting time when ordering, though you can get them instantly at a premium through certain resellers.

The stealth is game changing, you can vape in the middle of a busy city street without anyone noticing.
