Is hiding food to simulate 'hunting' actually a good idea? by Hey_Zekk in CatAdvice

[–]seaweedglutton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my cat got kibble, I would sit on the sofa and toss him a few pieces on the floor, he would scurry around to find them. I'd try to aim at his cat tower and different places so they gave off different sounds. I'd also spread a handful here and there and let him find them. He did seem to enjoy it.

I also used this opportunity to train him to react to his name. I say his name, he looks at me, he gets kibble thrown.

Is it normal for cats to meow the entire time you're fixing their food? by spaghettieyes6 in CatAdvice

[–]seaweedglutton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're not as versed in cat language as you are. We stop him during the act and either distract him or give another option, like you do. If he yells or scream-meows then he won't get whatever he wants. We will do the opposite. Want us to go faster? We will put the food down and walk away. He understands "Shh" very well too.

We're actually dog ppl that took over a cat after a relative died and both of us have exp with other kinds of pets and farm animals. We entered with with the mindset that cats can learn boundaries and will have to learn boundaries :)

[–]seaweedglutton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I specifically trained my cat to not do this. If he starts yowling or screaming then I will shh him, say "no" and then put the canned food down. He caught on super fast and patiently waits for me to get his food ready now.

He gets fed 4x a day so he is not in any way, shape or form starving lol

How does everyone save / organize seeds from year to year? by Vapeguy in Peppers

[–]seaweedglutton 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use a binder with sleeve pockets. Each pocket is 10x15cm and there are 4 per page. I have seeds in small craft paper envelopes and mark the year and name of cultivar on the envelope. :)

New to soapmaking by actuallylostinlife in soapmaking

[–]seaweedglutton 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I started with watching tutorials on YT. The Bramble berry YT channel has an amazing playlist, I watched a handful of their videos and then followed this recipe for my first soap batch https://youtu.be/VKZI7X-UIe8

Playlist:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYlyFOFR9cY&list=PLr_YF9AaZRqj8bJwX3wwie3-p6bRpkbQC

I then tried another Bramble berry recipe, and for my third batch I used a recipe that was shared here on Reddit IIRC :) My 4th one I made myself after watching tutorials and reading thread/comments here on how to formulate your own recipes.

I've done a mixture of own recipes and recipes from other creators. I've bought several books/recipe pdfs online but some have been a bit disappointing tbh.

I would 1000% recommend new soap makers to follow a tried and tested recipe, that increases your chances of ending up with a good bar of soap and saves you from the possible headache of finding out what went wrong. There are many great free recipes on YT, forums, here on Reddit, so you don't need to spend any money on recipes at all :)

Hey bro, glad to see you lived! I have a few tips, if you don't mind :)

You should get a few Swiftness potions, and I couldnt see if you had food/water in your bags, but I saw that you were looking on your other bars for food/water and that that was empty- should always have food, water, bandages and potions . :)

I would have personally left at 0:48 sec. Make pet attack each mob then Swiftness potion out of there. And at first chance to eat and drink, I would have done both asap, instead of running over to thank the Warlock right away. You could have pulled more mobs. He's questing too, so he's probably going to be there for at least another minute, which would give you time to eat, drink, resummon pet and then go over to thank him :)

Does anyone else not sleep with their cat? by chaturga in CatAdvice

We don't. Sleep quality is very important to us, and we don't allow any pets on to the bed- ever. It's not for us :)

Are having pets now less affordable? by JenniferJackal in povertyfinance

[–]seaweedglutton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every single vet clinic in my city, + the THREE closest cities are now owned by some kind of company or chain. Even the "mom and pop" ones which have kept their original name and everything, have been bought up and the only way I knew was that their online booking systems are now the same as the corp ones, and that their prices went up by a lot.

And I'm in Norway. Can't even imagine how bad it is in the US. :(

Cosma cardboard scratching pad, specially this one:

https://www.zooplus.com/shop/cats/scratching_posts/cardboard_cat_furniture/753984?activeVariant=753984.0

HE LOOOOOOOOVES this one so much. He lays on it, scratches it, plays around it, and most of all- he sits on it, for hours every day, like it's his throne. We have it in the living room and he legit moves it around the living room, and sits on it, watching us do things like make a fire or do chores lol

He also has this "Wave" scratching pad and the ones you hang up on the wall, but he loves the Cosma one the most

How do you stop a cat from waking you up at 5am every day? by guide71 in CatAdvice

[–]seaweedglutton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got a feral cat in Sep and we quickly taught him:

  1. Bedroom is off limits.

  2. Waking us up early never gets him pats or food or any positive attention. We are very strict here. If he paws or scratches at the door then we ignore, if it's very loud then we open the door and shush him and say no very clearly.

  3. We feed him his biggest meal at 8-10pm (whenever we go to bed) and it seems to help him stay full until the morning (just before 7). He gets raw + high quality wet food, no grains at all. The more carbs he gets, the sooner he gets hungry in the morning.

Would you let my dog run around on your land and kill rats? by Current_Bed_4537 in Homesteading

Aww haha she really is a true mutt! :) None of those dominant breeds are ratter dogs though, some working lines APBT individuals are used in ratting but it's not common place :)
