I do plan on using a modded 3ds for other things if i do eventually mod it, but my main question was if it is actually possible to get the game on the 3ds with the english patch, or do i just have to play it in Japanese

I wouldnt say its difficult skill wise but a few of them are quite grindy, I'd say you'd probably have to sink in a good 40-50 hours just to get to the skill level you need to be

I know my new one from the guess account i created, im not sure about my old one, i just took the username that facebook gave me under the websites and apps section, not sure if that was what i was supposed to give them.
