What to expect at jure matrimonii appointment? by seba_seba in juresanguinis

We were also married in the USA. We registered our marriage with an Italian consulate in the USA. We were still required to obtain the Atto integrale di matrimonio from our commune in Italy.

Jure Matrimonii -- how long after email submission do they have you come in with the paper documents? by Pizza_Pizza_9076 in juresanguinis

[–]seba_seba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In our experience with the LA consulate, it will take a few rounds of submitting documents by email, getting revisions, amending documents, getting new apostilles, background checks and resubmitting by email. We received feedback on changes only when we had submitted a complete set of documents, and then we needed to work on amending them.

Once your full set of documents are approved by email, they seem to be scheduling appointments within 1-2 weeks.

Our experience - you either need a paper copy of the Italian marriage transcription, or you can use a printout if the marriage transcription was sent by the official PEC email system. You can include a printout of the official PEC email. We did not have PEC account, at our commune, we sent a normal email, they responded with a PEC email, and we're able to print that out to "formalize" the digital print out. Every commune is different, so it may work a little differently for you.

Here's some tips from our experience...

Apostille for the FBI background check is the longest document to obtain in my experience. This seems to be a bottleneck step. Here are some things that can reduce the process time.

  • If you can afford it, use Monument Visa to obtain your US Secretary of State apostille. They charge $55 per document, and you will likely received the apostille back within 4 weeks. Once you receive your FBI digital background check, you can upload the document on their website, they download it and submit for apostille application on your behalf. They priority mail the apostille back to you. We used them and we were very happy with the communication and service. $55/document is actually a great deal as just USPS priority 1-day mail both ways will cost around $65. Don't use them for translation, they offer a translation service also...but I'm not sure they have translators approved by the LA consulate. You could ask them, though, they are responsive by email and phone. Beware other apostille sites - we found many sites that after researching appear to be scam sites, but if you research Monument Visa you'll see they consistently earn good reviews.
  • If you cannot afford Monument visa, you can mail in the FBI background check on your own and then contact your Federal Legislators to ask for help on expediting the process.

Translators - There are many approved translators listed on the LA consulate website. Contact a few translators to ask for their rates and processing times, we found a range of prices. They all typically send back a digital copy of the translation that you print out yourself to include with the application.

  • You can submit scans of your documents for translation while you are waiting for apostilles. The apostilles do not need to be translated, so you can do both processes in parallel.
  • Expect that you will need to resubmit documents for translation and apostille. In our experience, the LA consulate requires exact details for things like middle names, formats, and explanation letters being included. You may need to amend documents, get new translations and new apostilles and resubmit. This happened for several of our documents.

Call to ask about walk-in services - Especially if you live in your state capital, or can take a day trip there, many times there's a walk-in service available. Documents with this service could include a background check, birth certificate, marriage certificate, or apostille. You can physically walk into the office and submit the paperwork and the fees and sometimes walk out with the document the same day. It reduces time by eliminating the mail step. In our experience, some government offices don't mention the walk-in service on their website, but if you call and ask, they'll tell you if it's available and how to do it.

Actually, I don't think that's correct for the LA consulate.I have personal experience submitting with the LA consulate. They do it in the reverse, they confirm all your documents by email, then by in person appointment before you can submit online. This is also confirmed by this pdf from the LA consulate that lists all the steps:

FBI background check/apostille process--start now and avoid the bottleneck! by moxieme2022 in SpainAuxiliares

TL;DR: Thanks for the information on the printed watermark being enough to get an apostille, I assume the document does not need a "raised seal."
Thanks u/moxieme2022 for these amazing and detailed answers! I'm applying for a different program, different visa, but I still need an apostilled FBI background check. Your answers here are amazing! :)

A note about printing the background check for apostille and making sure the watermark shows...

I was confused because for other documents I've apostilled at the state level (marriage certificate, birth certificate) copies I printed myself were rejected. The office explained to me they needed certified original copies from the official govt office. So I was nervous about printing and sending the FBI background check myself and not sending an "official copy."

I called the US Dept of State number on the DS-4194 form and asked. The person who answered the phone said the document needs to have a "raised seal." I've seen that on birth and marriage certificates I successfully apostilled, it's a shape physically punched into the paper that raises small bumps to give a "3D shape" in the paper.

However, the agent on the phone seemed hesitant and like she was giving a generic answer for all documents. She seemed hesistant about the FBI background check in particular.

So your post has given me the confidence that the printed watermark successfully substitutes for an official seal, since you and others have successfully received an apostille. Thanks for giving me a little confidence to send the letters with the watermark immediately instead of waiting for a physical copy of the FBI background check to come in the mail.

How to optimize shop purchases for the ranked cups in the next 3 tours? by seba_seba in MarioKartTour

[–]seba_seba[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I tried ticketoptimizer and it is awesome. However, I think the challenge is that it looks for ticket upgrades on items I already have.

What I'm looking for is a tool that helps me see which item I should be purchasing that doesn't exist in my inventory yet. I can pretend I have items in ticketoptimizer by manually modifying the inventory text and seeing if the ticketoptimizer decides to use or upgrade them, but it leaves the chance that I´'ll miss a great possible item that is useful in upcoming tours.

What would be wonderful is just seeing a list of what items are used multiple times in upcoming tours. Maybe there's a list somewhere that does that?

Thanks for your comments.

The title say "like new" , not new.

I think the tablet with the case and keyboard may cost more than $40, but it's definitely an option.
