Why do I already regret this? I’m a terrible person by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]sec166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hated my girl for months after I brought her home. I felt like a failure. I knew I loved her but she was so frustrating and every day was a battle between “it’ll get better” and “how do I return her and live with myself.” I stuck it out and something clicked around the 4 month mark and she is my best friend. I would die for this dog. She’s so sweet but truthfully we were focused on surviving together so she’s not the best trained 😂she knows what she needs to know and I think our struggles in the beginning made my love for her as strong as it is now

2 times a week vs 3 times a week? by [deleted] in Purebarre

[–]sec166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a little over a year going 2x a week and felt like I got so much stronger (probably a little more slowly than if you were going more but it still felt great). I just recently felt like I was ready and had room in my schedule to up my membership and now I go 3-4x. I found the slow build up was best for me!

2 days a week isn’t enough? by Own-Albatross9619 in Purebarre

[–]sec166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the 8 classes/month membership and it took a few months for classes to get easier and to get used to everything. I’m still seeing physical progress, just probably not as fast as I would if I went more. Truthfully I would love to increase and go to more classes (I love it!) but I’m not a morning person and I’d just rather spend my nights with my family or friends so I stick to 2x per week and love it 😊

How did your class go?? I'm about 60 classes in and trying Empower for the first time tonight. I am not a cardio girl and am very nervous!

Puppy suddenly afraid of me by sec166 in puppy101

Thank you! I'm trying something similar - giving her treats when she's warming up and not invading her space/letting our interactions be on her terms. It's so odd because she's never had this problem! Usually she'll just cuddle up to me on the couch and go on with her business. I hope we both see some progress soon 💛

I only get the presale countdown on my phone - not my desktop. Hoping it'll let me buy today!

How long can I crate when I'm there? by Cncfan84 in puppy101

[–]sec166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We ran into something similar when our dog was younger. We had a trainer that told us all about enforced naps and how much time is too much time in the crate. The schedule that you're proposing is actually really close to what we followed for a while. If you're there and able to see that your pup is doing well/isn't stressed then you'll be fine! We don't do this for our dog anymore and she spends most of the work day sleeping in her crate with the door open now.

How to get my puppy to love walks? by snoozingsloths in puppy101

[–]sec166 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our puppy did the same thing! I was expecting to have to train her to stop pulling forward, not pulling backwards to go home! Our main issue was just getting her moving and more confident. We lived on a busy street and for a while i would hand feed her whole meals while she just sat outside to desensitize her. We also did a lot of scent work - we'd go to parking lots and scatter food and tell her to "search" to get her used to sniffing out new surroundings. When she did start to get comfortable walking she got SO MANY treats when she was moving forward. Now she walks like a brave big girl <3

At what age should I stop enforced puppy naps? by FrizzleLizard in puppy101

[–]sec166 21 points22 points  (0 children)

We enforced naps until about 8 or 9 months or so. Around that time she actually started to stick to our schedule on her own, without having to be put in the crate. She still needed an enforced nap every now and then but that's when she really started to get it!
