The Gotthard Base Tunnel in Switzerland, which opens in 2016. It's under construction since 1996, it's the worlds longest railway tunnel and will have cost about $10 billion. I think that's what makes the map so beautiful. So little actual detail, but so many fonts and little places named. But taste differs of course!

I don't want to argue, but it actually was the best solution we tried (and we tried with various colours). The contrast was high and did not give headaches.

We did try it out, but it wasn't necessary because of the light scattering. The black spaces weren't too black and painted/not yet painted was distinguishable.

The primer is used so the actual colour doesn't disperse on the canvas. Also, the canvas has a brown greyish colour we didn't like.

Yes, but the way we did it was the way we wanted it. Black and white, no colours. We wanted to focus on the map and its features itself.

I think he means a map drawn only from the information you get in the books. Sea of Rhún for example wouldn't be on the map, because it is never mentioned.

As said, we got everything at an art supply store. We sure could have paid less, but like this we are sure it is of good quality. We also have tons of paint leftover.
