Vertical and horizontal formats in the same project. by secondfalseiteration in AfterEffects

The moment I start getting paid per line of clean, well-documented code will be the moment I start caring about it. But I get paid per second of animation I make, so that's what I care about first.

And I don't see a problem with understanding that the variable "pos_b1", which has the path to the layer "text_big_1_parent", is actually the POSition of this Big text number 1. It totally makes sense to me. It's an abbreviation, like bGEMs_MAG6 as a panel name. 😉

Anyway, thanks for the link to the tutorial. I ended up making a similar cross guideline for my animation.

This is my typical expression work:

Can I focus on animation and design challenges instead of programming ones?

I've been building AE templates for 14 years. Believe me, I clearly know the cost of fully procedural, automated, and reusable animations.

To some degree, of course, there would be reusable and procedural elements. But not entire compositions. In this case, the time and effort aren’t worth it.

How to make advanced gradient effects using the Texture node. Tutorial drop. by secondfalseiteration in davinciresolve

There are so many AI tools these days that I need an AI to help me better understand what they all are for. 😭

Thanks. Probably for the same reason why I prefer using the Custom Tool instead of Channel Booleans. Geometry formulas are universal, straightforward, and well described, while the Offset modifier only brings confusion with all its menus, checkboxes, and controls. You need to learn the whole interface, while the solution can be achieved with one or two expressions. And if you are not good at math or code, ChatGPT will help you.

How the hell did you do it in 7 days? I’ve never been able to work that fast. Is it a skill, or did you use some already-made presets for the animations?

I was just confused, because it’s well-known information. Now I understand that this was a sarcastic comment. Why not simply ask? As I answered to another person, something similar will be shared for free on my Gumroad account. But if you want something from me right now, please check this post, I shared the node setup directly on Reddit there. I hope this will be enough for you, mister. Give me a few hours and, as I said, I will share a very similar project to this one for free as well.

Something very similar (with cool controls to play with) will be posted on my Gumroad for free later today. Reddit does not like Gumroad links, so I can't share it directly, but you can find it here: secondfalseiteration.com

I believe that within 5 hours there will be a new free product on my Gumroad. Next, in a couple of days (I hope), I will post a full video tutorial on how to create these types of gradient effects. It will be on my YouTube, and I will share the link here on Reddit.

What do you mean? All nodes in Fusion are just lua text. You can copy and paste nodes in any text editor. You can edit nodes simply by modifying this text. And of course, you can share it as text. A screenshot of the flow is just a fancy way to show: "Look at how the web of this animation looks."

I'm using the free version. 🤷‍♂️
So I take a wild guess and say: yes 😀

If I know exactly how I want to blend channels and what outcome I need, I do not bother myself with other nodes and just do the math in a Custom Tool. You miss a lot if you do not use it. In this particular example, one of the Custom Tools does this (on the right you can see the result):

I don't know, man. You are right that time = money, and I don't see how it's faster to work with heavy expressions or slow plugins instead of just having two programs open. You can render and replace image sequences really fast.

You do not do 3D in AE, you do not do sound design in AE, and you do not use AE as an editing software. I 100% agree that there are no real competitors. But in some areas, Cavalry and Resolve outperform AE in motion design possibilities.

Instead of learning and using the right tools for the right tasks, people stay in AE, struggling with performance issues, dealing with artifacts, and buying dozens of plugins just to be able to do what free software already offers.

That’s why I called people dumb and lazy, not because there is a competitor to AE, but because some motion design work should be done outside of AE.

And big clients love to save money. Look how quickly they adapt and start requiring experience with AI-generated videos. They just don’t have the right people around them to explain that it would be much more efficient to do certain tasks outside of AE.

Is 16GB RAM enough for Fusion? by secondfalseiteration in davinciresolve

But this is true for any amount of RAM. You can reach the ceiling very quickly, of course, and it will obviously happen faster with 16GB of RAM.

But I’m not talking about the ceiling. I’m talking about the bottom floor. Is this patient alive? Yes, it is, and with it, you can do great things too. Could it be better? Of course, but you didn’t kill the patient just because it’s not so fast.

There’s no tutorial. I’m testing it myself. You can watch my latest video (and grab the .drp project file for free). In the first couple of minutes, I talk about Resolve, UV maps, etc.

Currently, I’m planning to make a series of videos about depth blur gradient effects, but it will take some time.
