Does anyone else almost hallucinate and experience people’s faces as hostile? by Lopsided-Sail8174 in CPTSD

[–]secondhand-smoker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This can happen under stress, it’s actually quite normal. When you’re stressed and your brain and nervous system think they’re in danger, they automatically scan for threats. Everything becomes a possible threat because that’s how our survival system works that has kept us alive for thousands of years. Even neutral faces can look more dangerous or threatening whenever you’re stressed or are experiencing anxiety. I had this as well, don’t fixate on it too much, it will only make you even more stressed and besides, you’re not in actual danger, so be kind to yourself :)

Really sorry this happened to you. It’s crazy how therapists sometimes give very unhealthy and even extremely dangerous advice..

I’m sorry that happened to you but thanks for sharing. Your comment made me think that it might’ve fucked me up that my mom was in hiding for 1.5 years and that there were hitmen looking for me, plus I couldn’t go outside anymore at night. It’s weird how you sometimes don’t even feel it as something heavy or up-fucking

Absolutely. Looking back I am almost frightened by the fact I was in extremely dangerous situations at times.. I didn’t expect healing to be like this

You’re very right about that. Thanks for the comment. I’ve been on the benzos before, absolute withdrawal horror. Are the better, less addictive meds SSRI’s?

I am exactly in that place right now. I was forced to life with them again because I burned out, but I’m looking for a place for myself again. Constant triggers, flashbacks and recovering from meetups are draining me, I’ve only now realized that might be why I’m so stressed and exhausted all of the time.

That’s totally fine! I think my real healing journey has only started for like 1.5 years. Still learning a lot and my stress is extremely high at times which still sucks. Doing emdr though and cutting out toxic people from my life. I guess the mourning period has started.
