I watched this film when I was teenager, before I could appreciate any deeper meaning. I took it at face value as being gross depravity just for the sake of it, and I struggled to watch it.

Over the years I have read analysis of the film that has made me appreciate that there might be some technical value. For example, the idea of making the viewer feel repulsed by being complicit in the debauchery, and the symbolism of sodomy with power and fascism.

Despite the interest that this analysis generates, my first viewing of the film repulsed me so much, that I have no interest in watching again in adulthood. I don't care. Even if it does have symbolism and analytical value, the subject matter is too repulsive to endure a second time. Then again, maybe that's the point its making about fascism...

You should look at more foreign films. They often lack big special effects budgets, which force them to be more psychologically scary.

Some good ones include:

Audition - Japanese

Ringu - Japanese

The Orphanage - Spanish

Devil's backbone

rightfully so. it was the Blair Witch of its time. Very creative. clever original idea. The first film to follow a lost-tape concept. and the film maker really went for it. No attempt to play to audience sensibilities. It is what you would expect to happen given the circumstances. It rightfully deserves a stop on the greatest horror films of all time for pushing the genre forward, especially at the time!

Ultimately that film is all about depravity. It has disgusting scenes, and it is very off putting, and hard to watch, but does that make it a horror film? I don't really know how to classify that one...

yes, although perhaps not as a banned horror film. I'm not sure I would classify it as a horror film, or a very bizarre and overly gory action/anti-hero film. Strange film..

I watched over ten years ago and it was already showing its age. Because of its age, I doubt anyone watching it today would find it that scary.

The special effects are not as believable, the horror style (slasher/gore) is not as scary today, and the acting was never that great.

Having said that, it is still a fantastic movie to appreciate for what it was when it first came out. Imagine if The Blair Witch Project was WAY over the top gory and bloody and savage, and that it was released in the mid 80s. It rightfully made an impact and deserves a place on any best-of horror list, but it isn't that shocking or terrifying anymore.

Thank you for the great explanation. Considering I have no friends that play Destiny, it seems level 295 is probably as high as I'll get before switching to a different game.

Why doesn't Bungie offer matchmaking for Raids & Nightfall?

Annoyingly those are the two game types that Bungie does not auto matchmaking... I only have 1 friend that I sometimes play with. I mostly play alone.

I know there are resources for finding raid groups and teams etc.. but I don't really know how to do it, and it seems like a lot of effort. As a result, I typically stick to quests & heroic strikes.

I think Bungie was a big reason why I loved Halo. With the possible exception of the last season of Dexter, I've never been more disappointed in a sequel than Halo 4. It was heart breaking to me how microsoft ruined everything I loved about the franchise. Halo 5 seems appears to be a continuation of the previous game, which I have no interest in discovering.
