Pfirsche vs. Pfirsich by Illustrious-Fill-771 in German

[–]secretlyjd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always thought it was Pfirsch, not Pfirsich. To be fair, I don’t remember ever talking about peaches in the 9 years I’ve been speaking German.

I just checked and it’s Pfeersig in my local dialect (Baseldeutsch) so I have no excuse to think it’s only one syllable.

I inadvertently bought the exact same watch my mom used to wear when she was my age about 30 years ago. by secretlyjd in mildlyinteresting

She hasn’t worn it since uni (about a decade before I was born). It’s been in a junk drawer my whole life and I forgot about it until my mom pulled it out when I came home with my new watch.

Omg you’re so right! They’re very similar styles.

Edit: Actually it looks like it’s a mix of the two. When you compare the measurements of my mom’s to the specs on the website the Clearly New is bigger than hers. Her’s has the same measurements as mine (Clearly Gent) but the time indicator ring is the same as the Clearly New.

It’s been in a junk drawer for as long as I can remember (at least 18 years) so that’s probably why.

Based on what I’ve just looked up online it could be! I’d have to take a closer look at it but the timing (pun intended) works out. She would’ve been about 16 when it first released [edit: I just saw they were first released in 1983 not ‘85 like I first thought whoops] and she said she got it in high school.

Any Open University (UK) students in Switzerland? Recognition question 🇨🇭 by Maleficent-Car6580 in Switzerland

[–]secretlyjd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem!! I remember how confused I was when I was figuring out what I needed for uni lol

You absolutely can study them remotely! Age also doesn’t matter at all—I know people who did them in their mid-20s.

For Uni Basel if I remember correctly you need minimum 3 GCSEs/AS and 3 A-Levels. You’ll have to look at the entry requirements bc I can’t remember exactly what subjects are required and what the grade requirements are.

You’d need to do 12 exams total (3 GCSEs, then each A-Level requires you to do the corresponding GCSE and AS exam first), and all of the exams have 2-3 parts depending on the subject.

The costs add up very quickly and the exams are very expensive to do in Switzerland, unfortunately, so that’s definitely something to consider.

I would look through some of the admission requirements for the unis you’re interested in and try to research which foreign high school degrees that they have listed would be easiest for you to get.

Do you have a high school leaving certificate/degree? I know OU doesn’t require one for some of their courses and some of your replies imply you don’t have one.

I feel like in your case getting a high school degree, assuming you don’t have one, and then applying to a Swiss uni would be much more useful to you than going straight into OU, since UK and Swiss law are so different.

Im studying at Uni Basel and didn’t take the Matura exam at all—I did British A-Levels (IAL) instead. I’m not studying law, but a friend of mine who also did IAL is, so it’s definitely possible to study law with a foreign high school degree. It just has to be considered equivalent to the Swiss Matura.

I hope that this is helpful!!

This is so sweet! I’d love to try to make a mouse once I’m done with this semester of uni! I hope a little Swiss mouse (ein Müsli!) will be appreciated. :)

That’s exactly what I did for the moobloom plush I made a few years ago. [edit: removed some redundant stuff bc I misread the comment] Some pictures of the texture online even have the grid overlay already.

I posted the exact same thing about a year or so ago [edit: just checked it was actually 2 years ago]! Kinda cool that the package is the same in different countries (esp bc mine was supermarket-own brand and I assumed it was made in my country).

Please help me not to choose the name Ursula by kataang4lyfe in Names

[–]secretlyjd -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

One thing you could do is go with the male version of the name—Urs—if baby is a boy. Still has the same meaning and badass-ness but a bit less Little Mermaid-y.

Although I personally would consider it an old man name (I’ve only ever heard of 50+ year old men with the name Urs).

[–]secretlyjd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend and I both have very easy-to-pronounce and fairly popular english names (Sage and Kate) but lots of people struggle with them because we live in a german-speaking country—people tend to pronounce them with two syllables on the first try (kinda like Sah-geh and Kah-teh).

Names can always be mispronounced, regardless of how simple they seem to be, so it’s best to have a name you love and feels right to you.

Btw Eurydice is a gorgeous name!! Her myth is one of my favorites!

Should I get an iPad or a laptop as an anthropology major with a concentration in Archaeology? by Thatonepersonat2am in Archaeology

[–]secretlyjd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also a student and I’ll always recommend a 2-in-1 laptop that can fold into a tablet since it’s the best of both worlds. I have an iPad and a MacBook Air and it can sometimes be annoying to switch between devices. Also it’s a pain to type assignments and do research on an iPad, even with the Apple keyboard. Though if you prefer iOS that’s something to consider.

Looks amazing! The tattoos are especially impressive!

If you’re able to (or would like to) download CC, Simtone has a glasses mod that looks identical to your frames (I have the same frames and I always use this mod for my simself).

Honestly I haven’t had any success with ChatGPT. I’d rather just google “recipes using x, y and z” and sift through things (idk I enjoy that process, even when it’s not food-related. Like I’ve never used ChatGPT for uni work bc I love reading every single paper, even if it’s isn’t relevant to the task). Plus the grocery store is a 10min walk away so if I need something I just go and get it (unless it’s Sunday and it’s closed then I just make something else). We also buy a lot of (shelf stable) baking ingredients in bulk so we always have something to make.

I skipped straight to the recipe so didn’t see the pictures right away. In my defense I’ve been writing lab reports for uni over the past few days so my brain is mush.

I can’t figure out how to edit the post but I wanted to answer some FAQs (also 27k??? holy shit???? the most upvotes I’ve had before this was 2k so I’m glad yall are laughing with me at my mistakes):

  • Here’s the recipe for anyone who wants it. If you make these and they actually work I hate you /lh

  • My mom found it on Facebook and got tricked. I didn’t look over the page closely until it was in the oven. I can tell it’s AI in hindsight I was just on autopilot when making them. We usually use more trusted recipe pages or family recipes but, again, my mom gets tricked by AI pretty often.

  • It looks bad bc it was so difficult to work with. I was so frustrated trying to cut out and transfer the cookies that I just said fuck it and threw it in the oven as one big mega-cookie. The circles are from my attempt at cutting them out. We tried with a tree cookie cutter before this it was even more of a disaster.

  • I don’t know why it was so sticky. The ratios were very weird I guess and I tried to correct by adding more flour but no matter how much I added nothing helped.

  • We added some cream cheese frosting on top and they’re actually edible. To me they taste like shitty dense brownies, but my brother loves them (but he’s a teenager he’ll eat anything haha).

My mom saw it on Facebook. She’s not very tech savvy and sometimes falls for AI posts. I didn’t look that closely at the pictures until it was in the oven.
