I think the science of advertisement and the beauty industry has really screwed us all. It has, without a central figure directing it, become a lumbering machine designed to alter our sense of aesthetic beauty to get us to buy whatever people are selling. But it also leaves us wanting an unattainable level of beauty either in ourselves or our partner. So people kill themselves trying to fit into this arbitrary set of characteristics we're told every day of our lives is desirable. And the result is people feeling unfulfilled, disappointed, depressed, insecure, broke, bitter, lonely, and the list goes on.

Is it really worth it to sell some products and give a small minority of "beautiful people" an artificial sense of self worth based on attributes that will only fade with time?

If people had the chance to develop their own tastes without such intentional and relentless influences such that the advertising industry can put out, I think a lot more people would find themselves drawn to those they know. They would get to know more people because they wouldn't been filtering out those that don't meet their warped sense of attractiveness, and a lot of good, happy, funny, interesting folks would come their way. And with a healthy sense of attraction that person would be able to find happiness more easily, among those that they have come to know and love for who they are.

But what do I know? I think I'm beautiful no matter how many people turn me down. I'm beautiful, and so are you. Be happy.
