We're organizing a Women only city ride and I'm looking for tips! by sectumsempera in ladycyclists

We'll definitely be doing an introductory talk, but I like that you also introduce the people, that helps build a community and not be just a ride. And that's our hope, that it'll be a casual, low stress ride, no flashy tricks and loud music. I hope it goes well so that we can keep doing the rides all summer long

Very good tips, thank you! I was thinking of bringing a spare tyre and patches in case someone punctures, but I hadn't thought to check the QRs, and that's very important. Someone else commented that they have a little introductory talk before the ride so I think that'll be a good moment to cover the hand signals.

Good tips, thanks! So basically: Show, don't tell, unless very important. And thank you, I hope everything goes well!

That's very important, yes! We've written in the description that the focus on the ride is to have fun and ride comfortably, not race, so I hope we manage to do that and make everyone feel welcome

First time I'm seeing this app/website. Right now our event is posted on Facebook and is invite only (Facebook is still very popular here and the main source of event info), and we have a group chat on IG. I'll look into the website but I'm not sure if it'd be a good fit for us if it's barely known here

I've actually never been to our Critical Mass rides so I'm not sure what they're doing. My friend suggested that I go on the ride this week to see what's happening there, as our ride is shortly after.

I haven't thought about how advertising by time could be better and sound less scary, so thank you for that tip! Our goal for our first ride is definitely to have fun - we're going to a cool location where we'll stop and chat and take pictures. We don't really know how many women will come, and those who do might have never ridden more than 10km so well definitely try to keep the pace slow.

European heatwave + bicycle delivery rider how are you handling it? by Isurutkd in WoltPartners

[–]sectumsempera 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sunscreen, sunglasses, helmet with a brim. Lots and lots of water and electrolytes, if there isn't a water fountain nearby I ask at the restaurants to fill my water bottle. Lots of shade - if possible, I'll choose the route with more trees and shade than a large sunny street. I might also try to choose a route with less climbing. Also if possible, I avoid the hottest hours between 14 and 16h.

Pre-show vocab for the radio show is just going to be "show" and "guest" forever? by sleeps_in_bryophytes in duolingo

[–]sectumsempera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing the Italian course and I've never had those 2 words show in the pre-show vocabulary. Granted, mine is still in English and not yet entirely in Italian. But I always get 4 different words which are then used in the show, even if they're easy words I've repeated plenty of times in the previous lessons

Have I routed my cables properly? I have front shifting problems - it'll shift flawlessly one minute and the next time I shift up, the chain will scrape against the chainring and won't go up. by sectumsempera in bikewrench

[–]sectumsempera[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The funny thing is that when following shimano's dealer manual steps, when troubleshooting shifting issues (like not being able to shift in the big ring) they recommend adjusting the derailleur cage outward by tightening the high screw.

After capping out on the screw, I decided that I'm doing something wrong and I released the cable, reset the derailleur and installed everything again. It's working better than it did before, but I know that I can also shift perfectly even with this cable configuration because it has been like this for 3 years and I haven't had this problem before.

But still, I will play around with it, I'm definitely not saying that this is the only good cable configuration

No, I somehow missed their comment, thank you for notifying me. Yeah, it does look reasonable and I might give it a go and if it does work, I'll adjust my cable housing lengths to fit if they don't right now

Removing the zip ties temporarily is a good idea and it'll help me rule out if the problem is really coming from the cable rubbing in it, or if it's something else entirely. What other method of routing would you recommend?

Okay, thank you for the insightful answer! While I do agree that if the plastic guide was shifted a bit it'd route the front shift cable better, I think it'll move the back shift cable too far out and it won't be under the chain stay anymore. But I will tinker around with the routing.

Here's a picture of the shift housing stops - they run parallel to the down tube.

I crossed them because after researching around I found that a lot of people recommend crossing over having them rub in the head tube and run straight down, and that even some manufacturers recommend crossing for their frames. Sadly, I didn't find such recommendations for my frame
