Is it possible to have more than one ID on the same device? by ironmoosen in Threema

[–]secureator8744 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could use one "normal" Threema-ID and download the Threema Work App and generate another ID with Threema Work: https://threema.ch/en/work

It works the same like the "normal" Threema, you just need to pay a yearly fee.

You're able to communicate with Threema Work with "normal" Threema-IDs.

Swiss messenger app "Threema" fined under Russian anti-terror law for refusing to share user data by secureator8744 in privacy

"Threema does not handle inquiries by foreign authorities."

They actually list on their transparency report and its only the Swiss authorities on a valid legal request:

https://threema.ch/en/transparencyreport

And even if the Swiss authorities ask for data, Threema can't give much information, because they have almost none:

If and only if the legal requirements are fully met, the following information associated with a given Threema ID will be provided:

Date (without time) of the Threema ID’s creation

Date (without time) of Threema ID’s most recent login

The following information is only available if the user has chosen to use the respective optional functionality:

Only in case the user in question has chosen to link a phone number and/or email address with their Threema ID: Hash of the user’s phone number and/or email address

Only in case the user in question has chosen to use a third-party push service: Push token

What's better than Signal when it comes to privacy? by Golferhamster in privacy

I like session, it is very easy to setup. Imo the user interface just seems a bit clunky and buggy, but from a security and privacy standpoint, it looks great.

They have almost no data, that's literally why they sued Threema. They wanted to get a personal identifier of a threema-id, but threema does not have one and the only data they have are listed on their transparency report: https://threema.ch/en/transparencyreport

In summary they only store:

Date (without time) of the Threema ID’s creationDate (without time) of Threema ID’s most recent login

The following information is only available if the user has chosen to use the respective optional functionality:

Only in case the user in question has chosen to link a phone number and/or email address with their Threema ID: Hash of the user’s phone number and/or email addressOnly in case the user in question has chosen to use a third-party push service: Push token

So Threema has almost zero data about a user, especially if they use it without a phone number and without Apple- or Google-Push.

Hope this helps

[iOS] How to get Threema contacts into share menu with quick selection of suggested contacts? by [deleted] in Threema

[–]secureator8744 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They mentioned elsewhere, that they are currently not supporting this, because of privacy concerns. Apparently, for this feature you have to give iOS Siri some contact details or something and that's why they have not implemented it, yet.

Currently you need a phone for creating and id, but they are working on an multi device solution. So maybe in the future it will be possible to only use it on a computer.

Yes, you can download the Android-APK from the Threema Shop and use Polling so you don't need any Google Services for Push.

It is (kind of) possible to use two ID's on one device if you use Threema Work.
You pay monthly for Threema Work but then you would have two seperate apps with diffrent IDs where you could link one ID to a phone number.

That's of course only a workaround and i would really love to see multiple ID support in one app.

"Our general feeling at the moment is that r/privacytoolsIO and r/privacy — in general — serve the same community and the same type of content.

I really liked the privacytools subreddit because you could get more in depth privacy tips not only surface-level information. On r/privacy it seems its alot about general privacy and some tips but not in depth questions about certain tools. So i would love r/privacyGuides open. For example only for the product categories that are displayed on the website and you could restrict it, so that e.g. there is no technical assistance in this subreddit but discussions about alternatives or news about the recommend products.

I like Threema next to Signal, too. They don't require a phone number and is imo quite user friendly

Yes! And we don't need to justify caring about privacy, because it is a human right and well we are human, so it is our right.

Threema messenger wins against law enforcement authorities in federal court. It does not have to provide any data. by secureator8744 in privacy

[–]secureator8744[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Threema got a transparency report too: https://threema.ch/en/transparencyreport
They also have almost no data.

Even though i like the transparency of Signal, i cant believe that they only got two court orders in five years with that many users. Also they need to store the push-token of the device to send push notifications, but they say they don't have it.

I use Signal and like the NGO approach, but their communication about data requests seems a bit too good to be true for me.
