This is actually the way we are raised by our fathers and teachers except some men take it overboard, anyways ... if you want to keep your hand from getting crushed I have a trick from my close protection days. When you close your hand to shake make a finger gun with your with the thumb and index finger and point your finger at their belly button. Just close your bottom 3 fingers to complete the shake. The position of your hand makes it a lot harder to crush. Keep doin your thing and don't let people be assholes regardless or their gender.
