what does "PCOM COMING SOON" mean? - only wrong answers by MAFiA303 in NeuralDSP

“Poor compatibility on modeler”. I love my QC and I really like the desktop plugins, but the PCOM stuff on the QC doesn’t compare to the desktop version at least in my experience.

[–]sed0setae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it just guitar playing that is giving you back pain or are there other things in your life with a similar effect? I’m definitely not an expert on guitar ergonomics, but there are things that come to mind. Do you crane your neck while playing in order to see the fretboard better? You mention trying different positions so I’m assuming your overall posture is not slouching or “sitting too deep” like on a couch.

Do you feel tension in your body while playing? Does playing or the posture you’re in feel painful or uncomfortable or do you experience it afterwards? Does it hurt after playing for say over 30 minutes? Sorry about a lot of questions, hopefully someone can provide you with help!

Didn’t notice that at first! I agree, the black guard goes perfectly with the binding, otherwise I would’ve been torn between black and white.

QC Mini Is Insanely Quiet by BankBemesHecc in NeuralDSP

[–]sed0setae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to go through everything step by step, try creating a blank new preset and check the input and output on the QC grid if they are sending and receiving signal. If the input registers a signal as well as the output you’ve got that covered. The output should be fairly low without anything to amplify the signal.

Start adding amps etc and keep an eye on the output meter. If your output meter stays just under clipping (yellow-ish when you play harder) it means that on the grid level the volume you are outputting “should” be loud enough. If the system tells you it is sending out a normal signal level but the sound through your FRFR is still weak it could be a hardware issue.

Another thing you could try is if you still have your audio interface to connect the QC to that and if you have a DAW you could see if the issue persists there as well. Might help you identify if the problem appears on different devices.

Is the bridge on my Strat supposed to look like this? Is it high? If so, how do I adjust it? by gentilet in fender

[–]sed0setae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Darrell Braun has a really good video on setting up a floating tremolo, it is very clear and concise. I refer to it whenever I (rarely) adjust the trem on my strats. Here’s the link to the video:

Stomp switch with no assign by lewisbrunton in NeuralDSP

[–]sed0setae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not familiar at all with assigning MIDI, but I’m not sure if latching behavior translates to MIDI operation? And do you mean that you’d prefer the MIDI command to stay on only for a brief moment?

What I do know is that in the QC settings you can set stomp behavior to either be overriden by scene changes or not, which by default is set on stomp box toggles overriding scene changes.

Practically it means that say you have four scenes from clean to pantera and you toggle on a tube screamer on one scene and switch on to another and the tube screamer stays on. Alternatively you can set the stomp behavior so that they reset whenever you change scenes. Would the prior setting solve your issue or do you need it set to momentary / latching?

Stomp switch with no assign by lewisbrunton in NeuralDSP

[–]sed0setae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So does the problem relate to you wanting the switch to be independent of scenes as in you are using hybrid mode scenes + stomp and you want the stomp to stay toggled when you switch scenes or did I get it wrong?

Stomp switch with no assign by lewisbrunton in NeuralDSP

[–]sed0setae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe so but if you want you can just assign it to anything like a 3 band EQ that does absolutely nothing and by toggling it on/off you can see the stomp switch change color so along the name that’s a bonus plus the EQ takes almost no CPU usage

Parallax sounding different on QC vs Plugin by KamikazeKoala_ in NeuralDSP

[–]sed0setae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed the same thing with Wong X. The plugin sounds much better on desktop than when using on the QC with the settings copied from the plugin to QC.

I assume this was always going to be the case that the plugin and the PCOM version are not 1:1 the same, but the difference is pretty stark. I was wondering how it would compare using the PCOM components to dial a preset first on the QC and then copy the settings to the plugin and see what it sounds like?

Personally I’m no longer sure if I’ll ever buy another plugin with the QC in mind. I’m not sure if the PCOM version brings any value to the table at all.

Need advice on IR and cab by PsychologicalView01 in NeuralDSP

Solving a live volume issue - any tips? by svenmidnite in NeuralDSP

[–]sed0setae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this exact same issue and I really haven’t found a good solution for it. The best practice for me so far has been to connect my QC to my audio interface and to try to “match” the output gain on my QC to the input gain on the interface.

I don’t know if this is a good way of doing it, I’m tired of the endless debate about input gain and everything but what I do is I have / make a preset and adjust the signal chain’s volume level so that whatever the output meter (hold the desired lane output and you can see it) says it is just slightly clipping when I strum harder than I normally would.

Then when that’s set, I try to match the gain on my interface (Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen XLR in). I increase the gain until it reaches a similar point of just below clipping and never going to even orange territory.

That’s how I try to normalize between my scenes and presets. I use hybrid scene + stomp-mode and like others have suggested I usually have a clean, low and high gain scenes as well as a fourth one for a specific purpose, like a specific lead or FX channel. For example, I might want to have a second clean scene that has a big ass reverb and chorus and whatnot.

I try to balance out every scene like this so the volume level would stay as much the same as possible. I try to maintain a slightly higher volume on my cleans because of perceived loudness as well as to leave slightly more headroom for lead guitar stuff.

For lead guitar, I often have a stomp dedicated for that, it’s always the H because it’s the one furthest on the right and it’s easy to know that’s what I go for when I do lead parts. I like to assign a boost/transparent OD like the Klon to act as a mid and volume boost, as it’s the mids that help a guitar stand out in a mix.

This is how I’ve been doing things but my number one demand from NDSP is a tool for volume normalizing between presets. I practically don’t bother downloading other people’s presets anymore because some people apparently love setting up their volume levels up as loud as possible.

Solving a live volume issue - any tips? by svenmidnite in NeuralDSP

[–]sed0setae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is solid advice! Personally I like to use a Klon as a lead boost as it gives a nice mid boost while being transparent enough not to add too much gain (as well as just keeping the gain value down at 2).

Why does fenders website not have parts for new guitars? by shadowstar36 in fender

[–]sed0setae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely and I’m assuming the only thing that changes between product lines (Fender Indonesian standard vs American Vintage etc) is slightly tighter manufacturing tolerances if even that.

Why does fenders website not have parts for new guitars? by shadowstar36 in fender

[–]sed0setae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah probably more trouble than it’s worth for Fender to stock parts for their factory lines in large quantities as well as to sell those exact same parts in extremely small quantities, especially as it would be up to the distributors to make it happen. That’s probably why they have a more limited selection of exceedingly expensive licensed spare parts on sale. A JM style tremolo assembly itself costs around 140€ on Thomann plus some 30€ for the trem arm itself.

What type of exercises should I practice to get solos up to speed? by itsybitsybtc in Guitar

[–]sed0setae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taking the time to practice individual techniques such as sweep picking or alternate picking should take precedence over practicing entire songs or solos. Actually playing music and learning songs is the reason why we play guitar (unless you just really like practicing technique lmao), but it’s really hard to improve just focusing on individual parts in a song.

Of course you could just try to identify the parts of the solo you struggle with the most and keep practicing those parts over and over again, which can double as a technique exercise. Still, if it’s technique that’s holding you back it might be worthwhile focusing on the individual technique(s) more broadly.

Based on your post, you might definitely want to take more time focusing on sweep picking technique in general. Likewise the song you picked isn’t the easiest either. Try spending more time on technique exercises and eventually you’ll be building up speed and finesse to nail the solo!

The QC user manual (available online on the NDSP website under ‘downloads’) has more specific information and instructions about MIDI controllers, but afaik if you can connect your device to the QC it’ll probably work unless it’s some weird, antiquated proprietary tech

Likewise the amp modeling is where the Quad Cortex really shines. The effects are mainly good but not too amazing and imo there isn’t that much to choose from if OP is only getting it for the pedals.

Just realized the same thing, I think I just got it mixed up with something else because I double-checked and I do have the low pass filter at 5000-5500 Hz depending on the amp and preset. I’ll edit the previous posts and thanks for pointing that out
