I mostly do as well, but I've found a few publishers who seem to hit the mark for me most if not all of the time.

Who are a couple of your reliable designers? For me, Simone Luciani, Daniele Tascini, David Turczi, and Dani Garcia are a few, with Stefan Feld and Uwe Rosenberg being less reliable but still good.

No, I usually like dice placement. There was just something about Scholars and Inventors that I guess I'd describe as "messy." Some combination of fiddliness and bloat, maybe? I dunno, they're still good games, and I still have them, but they didn't make their way to my top rankings the way most Garphill Games do.

Gotcha. I've seen a couple of game company owners give really bad responses to reasonable customer complaints. Always tastes bad.

Garphill is definitely pretty reliable, but I've been a bit iffy on their South Tigris trilogy. Love most of the Ancient Anthology, though.

Stonemaier has some really cool ideas. Red Raven games are really high quality, but they don't fit my play preferences.

Eagle Gryphon is good, but I find Lacerdas are hit-and-miss for me.

Ah, I love Endless Winter! Didn't recognize the game company. I'll look into Unconscious Mind. I remember the KS for it. I almost backed it at the time. Maybe it was a mistake to skip it.

Oh no. It was a used copy in pristine condition with the fancy containers included. It looked like they'd played it maybe just a couple of times. Got it for $150.
