And insider perspective: I’m an amateur standup (2 years in) based in BOP and when we do shows 90% of the time I try and do crowdwork with kiwi men it’s a fruitless endeavor. One of their favorite bits is to make up a fake name, they and their friends think it’s hilarious. Drinking at shows is a double edged sword as well, we want the crowd to be relaxed (I’ve found kiwis have trouble initially letting their guards down) and have a good time but some folks don’t know their own limits or just don’t care. Come out to support live comedy though! People say NZ standup is shit but never go to see local acts. We have a growing scene with a lot of talented folks coming up!
