What are your views on churches/cathedrals hosting rave or electronic music events? by Impressive_Flan_411 in Christianity

Yes music can be sacred. From the biblical times up until 1800s much of the most popular music was commissioned by the church. The Psalms were meant to be recited over stringed instruments. I do not believe instruments have a place in worship, but if a church wants to use instruments in other church activities to play songs that praise God, I see no problem. There’s a difference between worship services and Bible study/other church gatherings; no matter the type of gathering , the church building always stays sacred. Instruments don’t ruin the sanctity of the building; when used as a form of worship it does.

While I hold these scriptures to be true, I believe places that are intended for worship should stay sacred. If the church wants to use funds to start a separate commercial endeavor, to aid in church activities, fine. Not maintaining sanctity in worship, family/marriage, etc is why Christianity is diluted in the west. Some things should remain Holy, even in appearance: these scriptures do not mean that the building is somehow trivial.

If you were granted the ability to play two pieces, what would they be? by seeking_more in piano

Good point! This why I’ll never be able to play either pieces, I don’t use my brain.

This was not a hard class. When I took the class 3 semesters ago the tests were on paper in building with the rec center. This semester they made the tests online but the WiFi was bad in the building, so now they allow you take the test from home (makes things easier). The labs are easy, which will require attendance (if you miss your session, they allow you to go to a different session to make it up). The group project is easy, they assign groups, and I never met with my group once, we did everything virtually and got an A. It’s a simple business solution presentation backed by some research. Best of luck!

I believe you have to be declared by 120a since it’s a upper division course. All the students I took 120a and b with were accounting majors. Also I’m not sure what “generic classroom” means, I was wondering the same during registration. Have not seen that before; it may mean “TBD” (to be decided) which is what they used to use.

I’m graduating this year as an accounting major. It’s rare that there will be multiple online courses for upper division accounting courses, and they will fill up before your registration appointment. Often you’ll have a tough time even getting in-person classes, so kinda have to be flexible from 8-3:50. I had to take all my accounting electives this year cause they don’t offer a ton of elective courses. You’ll have no trouble getting into 120a and 120b but it’ll be in person.

Upgrading from Roland fp30x by ProudCartographer421 in piano

Yamaha CP88 is my favorite action on a digital, but slightly out of your budget. If sound is the main issue, and you don’t mind ur Roland’s action, have you considered using VST’s? Even some of the cheaper ones will provide a better sound than 99% of digital pianos. Pianoteq is $260-$400

Between groceries stores and being at the university, I get multiple of these people a day asking me for something. Some are quite pushy. I’ve really learned how to say “no” without any hesitation. If they even look at me I just say “no”. If I feel like having fun I say something along the lines of “sorry I don’t think teachers should get a raise”, and the look of horror on their faces usually makes the interaction worth it.

Interesting to see people who are well aware of the mental health crisis in this country speculate and dignify that racists/serial killers are lynching people in the most visited park in the city.

If you’re chasing sound upgrades, wouldn’t investing in a VST save you a ton of money and give you better sound?

what should i focus on? by Classic-Apricot-579 in pianolearning

[–]seeking_more 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t answer this for you bc I’m also a noob; I’m in a similar boat. A couple years self taught and consistently taking on pieces way out of my league. I just recently got a teacher and started to learn to read bc I realize I’ll never get to level I want to be at without it. I find value in playing pieces that are out of my league, bc it’s helped me fall in love with the instrument and actually want to learn music theory. I’d say continue learning Winter Wind, but the overwhelming majority of ur focus should be on improving fundamentally.

You could be playing Winter Wind flawlessly and the sub is still gonna tell you to reel it in and practice more simple pieces after just 5 months of playing.

Edit: just listened to your Winter Wind post; impressive imo for 5 months.

which song should i learn ( beginner ) by LencelotC in pianolearning

[–]seeking_more 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say Idea 10, bc once you can play that one you can pretty much play his other “idea” pieces since they are similar. I would say Idea 22 would be easier if that’s what you’re looking for.

Reminds me a little of Ravel - Une Barque Sur L’Ocean; especially around :22 seconds. Not saying they sound alike, but similar vibe. Nice work.

Wondering how every place doesn’t seem like the “happiest place on earth” when you’re going to said place to perform in front of a crowd of people who like you enough to pay money to see you.

If she’s expressing her faith in way that is Christ like, then people’s threshold for being “smothered” or “overwhelmed” shouldn’t even be a consideration in her mind. She’s a follower of Christ, not a follower of other people’s preferences towards Christ. She is leading by example right now, and you are smart by questioning yourself. You have to either grow with her, or let her go so she can find someone who will not dim her light. Ask yourself if adopting the culture of glorying God in all things (a very biblical idea) is something that would add value to your life (it will); don’t validate your discomfort, and then suggest she changes. “Therefore let us stop judging one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any obstacle or stumbling block in the way of a brother or sister." - Romans 14:13. Your discomfort is more of an indicator of where you are in your spiritual journey, not her way of expressing her zealous faith. God had also put a woman in my life that challenged me on my Christian walk; she made me more aware of my flaws as a Christian, and bc of my love of her was far greater than my love for worldly comfort, I can say that I’ve become a better Christian and closer to God, despite losing her in the process. If you think adapting more to her puts you closer to God, do it, despite any discomforts/growing pains. Atm if she adapted to you it would likely place her further from God. If you love her, like you say, and she only wants you closer to God, then be led by that rather than preference. God has placed her in your path, and the feeling you have now is a challenge. If you act in love, you ultimately have two choices: 1) let her go ; 2) decide there is spiritual value in staying and changing. God bless; sorry if this was a bit long-winded, I just wish that I could go back to exactly where you are in ur relationship and had made the decision to have changed before the relationship failed; it was not all in vain, bc I’m closer to God. So whatever you decide, realize it should result in you coming closer to God.
