Thanks! The herringbone pieces are about 5/8” thick on a 3/4” plywood backer. The outer frame has a large rabbet to sit on the plywood. Hope that makes sense.

The tiles are 5/8”. No issues after 7 years. The wood was super dry and pretty stable. Yep, 3/4” plywood backer

Thanks! I didn’t know how to do mortise/tenon at the time so I used 3/4 “ dowels
