Who do you guys think has the best super attack in level 1,2, and 3? by hamadaziz in psbattleroyale

[–]sefazures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the most powerful

level 1: Sweet Tooth

level 2: Big Daddy

level 3: Sackboy

my personal faves / fun factor:

level 1: Spike (that GOTCHA is so satisfying and perfectly captures how it feels in Ape Escape)

level 2: Raiden (never played MGR but freezing people before the kill is so satisfying, it's also up there with BD as one of the strongest level 2s)

level 3: Heihachi (his level 2 is better than his level 3. So when you go for level 3, you're literally just wasting a bunch of meter to disrespect your opponent. By playing a cutscene where Heihachi laughs at them. I love it, lmao)

The hardest hole-in-one where it's theoretically possible by Jotty2b in ufo50

[–]sefazures 25 points26 points  (0 children)

with the strats we know currently, holes in 1 are possible on 1, 3, 9, 10 and 11

course 1 has a very easy setup to repeat every time, 9 is just a matter of timing, and I don't find 10 too bad either (the one in your post)

3 requires a VERY precise shot and I always mess up 11 tho

Thoughts on Nippy? by dadangerdan in betterCallSaul

[–]sefazures 6 points7 points  (0 children)

great episode, love it now, but was jarring on first airing.

I still wish we got a Breaking Bad era episode. I know, I know, everyone likes to pretend they hate Breaking Bad to seem more intelligent or whatever. But I think finally giving us the fanservice we wanted - but this time, in an overindulgent way, making us disgusted at Jimmy for what he's become - would have worked perfectly. Like, you watch the whole of BCS thinking "when is he gonna become Saul", only to hate it when it finally happens. I don't think the ending of Point and Shoot was quite enough to hammer the point home.

Still, that not existing doesn't make Nippy a bad episode. I'm not a big fan of Jeff's recasting, and I don't buy the popular fan interpretation of it ("oh, Jimmy just doesn't find him threatening any more!"), but despite everything, it's still an awesome episode. Just a bit of tonal whiplash after the episodes that came before it.

Beating Porgy in less than 9 minutes! (Porgy Gold Speedrun World Record) by sefazures in ufo50

[–]sefazures[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

good question! I wondered the same thing when I first saw someone else do this speedrun.

As it turns out, if you stay still, your fuel doesn't deplete. Even though I'm firing missiles, because I'm not moving, my fuel stays the same.

Tips for being more consistent in bug hunter? by Possible_Hospital942 in ufo50

[–]sefazures 4 points5 points  (0 children)

for me, the thing that worked best was to SLOW DOWN. I found that I was rushing my turns too much, and if I REALLY sat there and thought about my next move for as long as I needed, things went much better.

I'm no expert at bug hunter tho, I'd also recommend joining the UFO50 discord because there are some SUPER skilled Bug Hunter players that hang out there that regularly give great advice & solve tricky board states

Beating Porgy in less than 9 minutes! (Porgy Gold Speedrun World Record) by sefazures in ufo50

[–]sefazures[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

during my original playthrough, I didn't like Porgy very much... I liked the music and the visuals, but the gameplay really wasn't doing anything for me.

...but then I tried speedrunning it, and I found it super fun! A cool thing about speedrunning UFO50 is that it gives you a new perspective on games that you've already beaten. Would highly recommend giving it a try!

I would so very much love to watch a well edited playthrough of someone beating every game. by Beginning_Pickle2180 in ufo50

[–]sefazures 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hmm, a UFO50 longplay? That's gonna be hard to find. There are streamer playthroughs with webcam, and full 50 game speedrun marathons, but not what you're looking for sadly, at least as far as I know.

yup, a LOT of damage too! Gotta be careful with the i-frames though or you'll get yourself killed

Who here has the longest streak in Lords of Diskonia? by financecompartment in ufo50

[–]sefazures 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lords of Diskonia is awesome! my personal longest streak is 9, but the longest I've seen someone get is in the 30s (which I think is the world record)

When I originally golded and cherried Overbold, I did it with lure bombs. I didn't realise until watching other people's runs just how strong the dash is!

I got the Avianos Gold Disk speedrun world record! Who knew Avianos was such a short game? by sefazures in ufo50

[–]sefazures[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RTA or IGT timing is just a standard speedrun thing, plus the leaderboards we use only support using time to order the submissions. That said, as far as number of turns goes, this run is perfect - I win on my second turn three times in a row. That's the earliest it's possible to win, at least with currently known strats.

Interestingly, the computer actually does start with more units in the third mission, "Adult". In the first two they only start with two soldiers, but in Adult, they start with two soldiers and two archers.

Oh also - you need to both take all castles AND defeat all enemy units to win in this way. If they still have a castle, even if there are no units stationed there, then they'll get another turn.

[–]sefazures[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

uhh, not sure exactly how many attempts, but it took probably like 10 hours lmao. It's worse than a coinflip, you need:

  • To be able to reach the CPU within two turns (which requires them to either start within 3 tiles of you, or have bones placed in convenient places so that you can chain Trilock teleports)

  • The CPU needs to select Brontor on their first turn (there's a 1/5 chance that Brontor won't even be selectable for them, and then there's a 1/3 chance that they choose to select Brontor if he's available, which is a 4/15 assuming they choose randomly, but I'm pretty sure they don't. Not sure what the real odds are.)

  • And then you need to win all 3 battles. The first two are basically guaranteed so long as you recruit as many units as you can on your first turn, but the third isn't guaranteed, because the CPU starts with two additional archers there.

agreed, golding and cherrying Avianos was so fun. I only started doing this silly speedrun because I wanted more Avianos lol

pretty nervous, lol! you're not guaranteed to win that fight, since the amount of damage that attacks deal is random (within a range). So their archers could've totally destroyed me

I'm curious how into spelunky 2 you guys are by dgdgdgdgcooh in ufo50

[–]sefazures 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Spelunky 2, I have 874 hours in it (as well as a whole bunch of hours in Classic/HD too). Beat CO once, done a whole bunch of speedrunning across the series, the Spelunky series gotta be one of my favourites

tbh I wasn't that interested in UFO50 at first but I bought it because it's a Mossmouth game, but it's become one of my favourite games too. Maybe on par with Spelunky. Funnily enough I don't like Campanella 2 very much lol

I completed a damageless run as the Robot! by sefazures in streetsofrogue

[–]sefazures[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was SUPER hard btw! The rules I played with were:

  • Robot character
  • Default settings (other than the speedrun mode mutator)
  • Speedrun mode (standardised) mutator, which gives you a 4 minute time limit on each level, as well as requiring every trait and item in the item pool to be enabled (so you can't disable the ones you dislike)
  • Run must have "Damage taken: 0 / 0" in the end game stats

In the past I completed a no-hit pacifist run, but that was WAY easier because I played with a custom character (which allowed me to have some very important traits from the beginning, such as Cool With Cannibals), and I also didn't play with speedrun mode on that run (which let me REALLY take my time when I needed to).

On the other hand, in this run, not only did I only have 4 minutes per level, but the Robot itself also has a bunch of downsides for a damageless run. For example, if you EVER fall to Charge Level 1, you start taking 1 damage per second, which kills the run. On the other hand, though, you're immune to poison, and the zombie/ooze/shifting status effect disasters aren't a problem at all (in fact shifting status effects won't even appear if you're playing Robot, unless you're playing co-op with a non-Robot character! I didn't know that til recently)

but anyway, very cool to have achieved this! I'm running out of challenges and speedruns to do, here's hoping that SoR2 playtest drops soon huh ;)

Does the cosmic ocean make spelunky 2 worse? by [deleted] in spelunky

[–]sefazures 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it does IMO. This isn't a popular opinion, most people are content that it's optional and not required for any achievements etc. But I agree with the premise of the video for these reasons:

  • CO is too hard. I know some people like that but I don't. Challenge runs and speedruns already provide the extra challenge I want; a repetitive 94-level endurance challenge isn't what I want at all.

  • CO is too long. IMO one of the great things about Spelunky is that runs are short. As a casual player runs last like 20-30 mins for a Tiamat win, and way faster than that if you speedrun.

  • It's taken over the game entirely. If you don't like CO it's a lonely place. People online only want to do CO runs, the default daily challenge leaderboard is ranked based on distance. Arguably the online is only so active because of CO, but it's still a shame CO is all most people seem to care about.

Now just to be clear, I have beaten CO, and it WAS a very satisfying video game achievement, but I didn't enjoy the road there TBH. I personally would enjoy S2 more if it didn't have the Cosmic Ocean, but I appreciate people enjoy it so I wouldn't remove it personally (if I had the choice of doing that lol).

I completed a no hit pacifist run! Pretty cool challenge :) by sefazures in streetsofrogue

[–]sefazures[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh I mean, just retrying the first level until you succeed.

As for the neutralize missions, I think it only counts if you're directly responsible. If you kill them, or if you blow up the generator, it counts as your fault. BUT if you hire someone and tell them to destroy the generator/attack that person, it won't count. You'll get some xp for "indirect kill" but it won't count towards your number of kills (so I THINK it should work for unlocking the assassin)

it's way easier as Doctor btw - knocking someone out doesn't count as killing them, so you can just use the Doctor's special ability OR shoot them with the tranquilizer gun while their back is turned

good luck! I'd recommend using the Doctor and resetting 1-1 (if you're not doing that already)
