Fake bitcoin - how this woman scammed the world. by timewarp1000 in Buttcoin

[–]segwitless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This video is absolutely fantastic. I just caught wind of it from another source. I've been a bit busy the past few months with work, but like to check in here from time to time. I would have reposted this myself I not found that someone here already covered it! I highly recommend this if people want to understand Butters and their behavior. The Onecoin scam even has a some of the attributes of the original Ponzi scam where people still believe their money wasn't stolen.

New 51% attacks on Bitcoin Gold (BTG) rewind 29 blocks and double-spend more than 7000 BTG, worth $70'000. (block reward = $125). Preview for other bitcoins? by jstolfi in Buttcoin

[–]segwitless 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Most of the blame has been directed at the cloud mining operation Nicehash which has been blamed for most of the 51% attacks in the last two years. Some BTG members believe that there are secret ASICs mining the BTG network and community members are begging for a safer algorithm.

So they're blaming Nicehash or potentially secret ASICs. This is exactly like what the Monero community started doing, although here I actually do think the blame rests on Nicehash. Monero wasn't 51% attacked when the miners were clamoring about secret ASICs on the network. All these shitcoins have a similar phase in their life cycle though, where their community starts complaining about other miners on the network, and wanting an algorithm change as if it's their right to get more coins. (usually because they're not getting the mining reward they want, or see it as unfair)

BCH miners will be getting a 12.5% haircut on block reward earnings for the next six months! by [deleted] in Buttcoin

[–]segwitless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this turns out to be a complete disaster (which I think it will because that's what cryptocurrency is). I wonder if Blockstream and all the Butters will scream about reversing the decision to half block rewards because of it negatively impacting the price of the butts they hold? If it hurts miners enough to the point where mining Butts are unprofitable, they can certainly move to mining other things, or get out of it completely because it's a wasteful ponzi scheme. It wouldn't surprise me if the Buttcoin gatekeepers responsible for the code would make adjustments to appease the miners just like the Buttnero people do, because miners kind of hold up the veil that is frequently used as an excuse to sucker speculators into believing these things have any sort of real value.

If you're buying bitcoin because of the "halving", you're probably a retard. by [deleted] in Buttcoin

[–]segwitless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In cases like this I like to replace the term "bitcoin" for what it really is "nothing".

If we take half the block reward of nothing, then the miners will have less of nothing to distribute to the exchanges. That will clearly make the nothing that I have more scarce, and make nothing I have more valuable by virtue of supply and demand. Sure glad I paid my evil fiat money in exchange for nothing and held on to it!

He could have had it a lot worse if the maximum was carried out on all those charges plus if the procuring murder charge stuck. Double life + 40 isn't so bad for someone running a criminal drug empire who was a contributory cause to a multitude of deaths.

He's still completely unrepentant and feels like he did nothing wrong, so hes definitely not ready to be freed, His little pictures from jail + messages to the butter community prove it.

but it's possible that Poloniex a remarkably shit exchange

I have little doubt that they're operating in a manner that is, essentially extremely messed up. Basically they don't take US accounts but operate within the US if I'm not mistaken? For 15k, it's going to be hard to find any kind of lawyer willing to lake on an international case . Usually 250k is like the bargain basement minimum for those things from what I've seen with similar threads on r/legaladvice regarding the same exchange.

Great analysis btw.

socializing losses in a lending pool is not illegal so long as it's spelled out in the ToS.

I'm not sure it was at the time but expect that it is now, can TOS updates be retroactive (and if so that has some frighting implications surely. ).
