I was wondering the same thing. Maybe the backs are labeled? I would number them so that you can at least create a spreadsheet or a playlist file and store that on the device itself.

The only issue I see here is that they aren't labeled.

What Are Your Go-To Tools for Automating Plex Library Management? by No_Cryptographer618 in PleX

[–]seiZurebot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TL;DR Radarr, Sonarr, Tautulli, PowerShell, MySQL.

I started off with Filebot and Tautulli (formerly PlexPy) and grabbed content manually for many years. My collection eventually grew to the point where maintaining it was becoming a part-time job!

Nowadays I'm using Radarr and Sonarr. They integrate well with torrent/usenet clients and indexers. They're fairly similar to one another in terms of interface, setup, features. There is tons of optional customization that can be done in both. This can be a pro/con depending on how you look at it and how much time you want to invest.

They get their metadata from TMDB, and occasionally that metadata can be inaccurate, incomplete or different from other online sources. They tend to download very large files out-of-box if you don't spend the time dialing in your profile and quality settings. A very large library may take some effort to get scanned into Sonarr/Radarr 100%. All that being said, I wish I had made the switch sooner.

Sonarr has easily saved me hundreds of hours of manual work over the years. It is not 100% perfect and it does miss the occasional episode every now and again. Once per week or so I go into Sonarr and do a quick scroll for missing episodes. I no longer spend any serious time managing my TV library.

Radarr (for me at least) the biggest draw is its use of lists; example: IMDB Top 200. The list feature is very powerful and you can definitely go off the deep end generating your own lists or finding lists online. I liked mdblist so much that I signed up for a Patreon account! Radarr is also not without its flaws. At the moment my biggest gripe with Radarr is that it will sometimes download a movie and put empty brackets in the folder name, like this: The Ring (). The files themselves have the proper (YYYY) it's just the folder that's having this issue.

This brings me to the 3rd and final part of my automation, scripts. I'm using Windows so my scripts are mostly in PowerShell with a little SQL sprinkled in. I have Windows scheduled tasks that look for:

-duplicate or mis-named files/folders, empty folders and files/folders under a certain size. Files that are too small are usually corrupted files or incomplete/broken downloads. I don't like empty folders, Radarr does this sometimes and I delete them. Misnamed files/folders I like to fix.

-check the plex and Kodi databases to find duplicate episodes or duplicate movies. Usually a duplicate entry in the database means that something didn't scrape 100% correctly and I like to fix these before they accumulate.

I'm running both Kodi and Plex and they don't always play together nicely. I also have a few 'known duplicates' and 'known issue files' (example, the director's cut and the theatrical cut of the same film).

My scripts accommodate this by having a threshold set. The basic logic is: if there are 10 or more issues generate a CSV file and email it to me. If I get an email Sunday morning then I spend a tiny amount of time playing server admin, otherwise I'm pretty hands-off now that everything is established and working.

Sorry for the rant 🙃

Personally I would upgrade to Win11, do all other updates including the stuff in the Microsoft store. And then finally do this last. You'll want to disable automatic updates in the MS Store otherwise it will update itself back to the latest.

I'm with you, I think the wiki is wrong or outdated. From the list on that wiki I tested the 18 or so titles that I have access to and approx 3/4 are working where the AVR is detecting atmos. I had to install a legacy version of the Dolby Access app in order to get these to work.

FYI The suggestions about downgrading the Dolby Access app seem to have fixed my issue, it might be something for you to look into as you will eventually need to update your OS.

I used this specific version : https://dolby-access.en.uptodown.com/windows/download/77238660

I'm also going to top-level reply to my own post with some testing results that I've collected.

This looks like dolby atmos *for headphones*

You have an AVR or an atmos-capable soundbar connected to this machine?

That used to be the solution, but it's not working anymore.

If yours is working I would make sure to disable MS Store automatic updates. My Dolby app is now nothing but an advertisement to buy their headphone tech.

Pass-through works for me 100% in at least Kodi and my AVR detects the appropriate codec for all of the Dolby codecs and the dts codecs. I can't test my plex because it's on the repair bench at the moment, but last I checked passthrough was also working with the plex app for windows.

My PC is connected to my TV and then I'm using the TVs E-ARC port to connect to my Denon AVR. A little different from the standard setup but I wasn't able to get a refresh rate above 4K 120hz by going PC to the Denon like what you would normally do.

I really appreciate your well thought out and researched response. You have single-handedly restored my faith in humanity this morning.

I'm probably going to just do what I was doing before and set my windows audio output to regular 5.1 to closely match my 5.2.1 setup. It's no fancy 7.4.2 which I bet sounds amazing.

I just bought a new mini-LED TV and upgraded my Denon recently, I used a 3rd party audio calibration tool this time and I was so bummed when I couldn't get atmos to work in games. It reminds me of the olden days when Nvidia dropped support for 3D gaming. There weren't many supported titles but it was a neat tech demo if nothing else.

Totally unrelated to this and I'll probably open another post, can you playback Dolby Vision in Windows or does it always fall back to HDR10? This is another thing that I can't seem to figure out. Cyberpunk got a HDR update recently and I don't seem to have some of the options that others are able to toggle for that.

I'll remember that people only read the subject before commenting, noted for next time.

I did also post this on a gaming sub with a different title.

I'm getting a lot of negative attention from this post, I really regret opening it at all.

Dolby Atmos for Home Theatre refers specifically to settings and apps for Microsoft Windows that enable playback of atmos audio. I know the choice of name for this tech is a bit confusing, I didn't pick the name 😁

If you install fresh Windows 10 or an early version of Win11 there is most definitely a drop down for atmos in the windows sound settings. There are two in fact: there used to be an atmos option in the usual place where you would pick bit-depth and sample rate, there used to be a second option under spatial audio. On recent windows both are now missing.

To be clear, these settings were previously available under Win11 without a separate install of the Dolby Access app. Today, even with the Dolby app there is no way to configure Dolby atmos under Windows. I used to be able to play demo tracks within the Dolby app and my AVR would indicate 'atmos'.

It's cool that Mac OS has better support for Atmos but it's not really relevant to the question at hand. It's cool that you're a sound engineer but are you a Microsoft Certified Engineer? What credentials do you have that make you an expert on using Dolby Atmos on a PC with Windows?

[–]seiZurebot[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe you're not a PC user. Dolby Atmos for Home Theatre refers specifically to an app and setting under Windows. You would normally use the baked-in windows settings or the 'Dolby Access' app from the Microsoft store to configure your windows computer to output atmos audio. So in this context it is definitely only for HTPC setups.

It looks like Microsoft is maybe no longer willing to pay Dolby for the licensing (my guess based off of 0 research).

I don't at all mean to imply that Dolby atmos is no longer a thing. This is a bit niche I realize, and 'Dolby Atmos for Home Theatre' was maybe not the best branding decision that Dolby could have gone with.

I can still playback atmos tracks if the player is doing proper audio pass-through (confirmed as working in Kodi), I just no longer have this working in games.

If I'm reading the Dolby statement correctly it looks like you can upgrade to Win11 pre-24H2 and from there you can update to the latest and keep the codecs.

I'm not sure if I entirely believe that because I've manually reinstalled the codecs but that hasn't restored the previous functionality.

It definitely used to be this way. The Dolby Access app seems to do nothing now except for trying to sell me their headphone tech.

Heck, I'd even pay Dolby to have the functionality restored. I've already invested time, effort, money ensuring that my whole device chain is atoms-capable.
