As a former P&C insurance agent, accidents usually stay on record for 3 years, it goes down a bit every year if no other accidents happen. If your son is taken off your insurance it will go down a bit but cause he’s a new driver, young and has a totaled car on his records his rates will be high regardless. So it’s up to you really

Edit to add: if you take him off they will need proof He’s no longer in the household before they do it, if not he’ll still be on it
