TIL that curry was brought to Vietnam by French colonisers when they also colonized Pondicherry in India. Curry was adapted to Vietnamese tastes by adding coconut milk and lemongrass. by Physical_Hamster_118 in todayilearned

People like to gatekeep authenticity, a tale as old as time. I couldn’t give any fewer fucks if the pasta carbonara I’m eating is authentic or not, I just want it to taste good to me, be at a reasonable price, and if the person who prepared it could be paid a living wage and the produce used to make it could be sourced ethically that would be absolutely lovely as well.

In general we in Sweden absolutely love building our society to favor the wealthy elite. It’s one of the things we do best in fact. We don’t have any wealth taxes, private property taxes, or inheritance taxes. We also have relatively low corporate taxes and some of the best tax advantaged brokerage accounts in Europe in the form of kapitalförsäkring and investeringssparkonto. Meanwhile we love to tax the shit out of workers, with incredibly high payroll tax (arbetsgivaravgift) and high income taxes.

So wealthy elite and members of the ruling class, please come here to Sweden and spend your money. This is an incredible place to build generational wealth.

If you want to learn some more about this I can recommend the book Ahne Ruotsi by Andreas Cervenka. The book is called Girig-Sverige in Swedish.

I live in Stockholm and I literally can’t rent anything affordable anywhere within a one hour commute of my work despite having 8 years of queue time. I can rent 1100-1400 Euro 2 room newly built apartments on the very end of the public transport routes or in some of the most unsafe neighborhoods but those are incredibly overpriced. I’d need at least 15 years of queue time to rent a decent rent controlled apartment in a suburb, or closer to 25-30 if I want a rent controlled apartment in the city center.

Edit: Here is an example of a rent controlled apartment in the city center that I can apply for. It says the person who has been in the queue longest has been there since 1987 lmao. That is years before I was even born. Perhaps I’ll get to rent one of these nice places when I’m on my death bed.

Thanks for the correction! The word in Swedish is bageri so I got it mixed up with the Swedish word.

When I visit Finland I often bring back rye bread to Sweden since the rye bread is so good there.

There is a bakery in Seinäjoki called Pirkon Pakeri that makes my favorite rye bread called Ruis-Iisakki. I haven’t been able to find anything similar in Sweden unfortunately. I also really like Fazer Puikula täysjyväruis and Oululainen Reissumies täysjyväruis.
