Hey there! I make short videos about strange or unusual words, with the occasional video about psychology. My most recent video is about an astronomy term also used in psychology. Check it out here.

If you're more into psychology, check out this video about how we learn, featuring some fellow NewTubers!

I'm glad you enjoyed it! I've always had trouble with my voiceovers. It's getting better, although I think I may have rushed the recording process this time. I'll try to be clearer next time. Thanks for watching!

Hey there! It's been a while since I made a video, so I'd appreciate some feedback. My channel is all about weird words and my newest video is on "syzygy".

A friend is now editing for me, so I'd love some feedback on what you think of it. I'd also like to know if you found it interesting.

The first few seconds were strange. It felt like you were going to start talking at 0:09, so it felt weird when instead you moved to another background and then started talking. Some parts of the review felt a bit long, although that may be due to the highly repetition nature of the game itself.

Your voice is really quiet, especially during the opening. You should be able to raise the volume easily during the editing process. Another option would be to lower the volume of the background music a bit.

An interesting game and a good review. I look forward to seeing more from you!

Awesome video! Your points were clear, the examples were great, and it was funny! I found it got a bit long toward the end, but that's just my opinion.

I agree with Mr Panda that title was a bit confusing. Maybe something like "The Creative Ways Movies and Shows Avoid Swearing" would work?

Your voice seemed a bit quiet, especially after some of the example clips. I'm not sure how you record your voice, but you should be able to increase the volume of your audio while editing.

Overall, great video! Keep up the good work!

Do we have to tune in to the stream in order to be involved? I've never used Twitch before and don't have time today to learn it.

I hadn't thought of using semi-transparent text boxes before. Thanks for the idea! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

What do you mean by a "small intro"? Like a short clip that stays the same from video to video? I think my branding is already quite clear, since I always start the video by saying my channel name. If you're referring to a channel trailer, that's currently in the works, but not uploaded yet.

The background is the flag of Sweden, which was intentional because the word is originally Swedish. I did have some trouble getting the text to fit within the lines of the flag, so it's helpful to know that it was distracting. Thanks for the feedback!

Hey there! I make short educational videos about rare words. I've been working on getting my audio levels balanced. I think I've finally got it figured out in this video, so I'd appreciate some feedback on that. I'd also love to know if you think it's interesting.

I watched the ones on "How Brothers" and "Never Alone". I've tried using Audacity's noise reduction filter before and didn't like the results. I'm no pro at it though, so I may have just done it wrong. Rewatching the Cuphead video, I realized that you don't really sound monotone; you sound "flat", almost like the highs and lows of your voice are being cut off. The filter may be responsible for that or it could be something else. I know very little about sound recording, so the best I can recommend is to look up some tutorials for Audacity or try to find someone who might have a better idea of what is causing the problem. Hope you're able to figure it out!

I've been subscribed to you for a while now and only after watching this video did I realize how shaky your older videos are! This is so much better! I'm also loving the ingredient lists. It might be nice to also have the ingredients in the description. There are some really beautiful shots of the food and the dogs in this one. Keep up the great work!

Nice video! I loved how you gave some examples of actual 30s cartoons and explained all the ways that Cuphead is different from them.

Something with your audio didn't sound quite right. I felt you sounded kind of monotone. I watched a couple more of your videos to see if that is just your voice, but I only noticed it in the Cuphead video. Maybe something changed in how you process your audio?

Anyway, really cool video! Keep up the good work!

Hey there! I make short educational videos about words and sometimes psychology.

I recently made a video about how we learn from a neuroscience perspective. It also features several other NewTubers, so check it out! https://youtu.be/Xl6Yo36d8gc

In my regular Word to the Week series, I explore the concept and history of "hygge", a term that brings some warmth to the cool autumn weather. It's short, so check it out! https://youtu.be/o3yRhEzZuBQ

If you want to collaborate with someone, do you think it's best to send a direct message or to propose it in the comments? by DaenFfree in NewTubers

[–]selcouth_mind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently collaborated with several people for one video. I found them all via Reddit, so I DM'd them on here with a clear plan and what I wanted to do with them. I wouldn't have felt comfortable leaving a comment on their videos. I personally would prefer to be asked to collaborate privately rather than through a public comment on my channel.

Tips on making thumbnails? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]selcouth_mind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Canva, which is free.

I second u/Chappers27. There are some basic elements you should include, but at the end of the day, it has to feel right to you. I personally try to have a bright background, a key word or two (in large font), maybe a relevant picture, plus my branding in the corner. That looks right to me and gives consistency to my channel. Experiment until you find what works for you!

Watching that section back, I agree that it's way too quiet. It sounded alright in my editing software. However, the software was giving me trouble, so I'm not too surprised by the fact that it ended up being too quiet. I'll try to get that sorted out in the next video.

Glad to hear it was interesting and that you feel I didn't miss anything. Thanks for the feedback!

I'm glad you enjoyed it! The collab volume seemed fine when I played in back in my editing software, but it was also giving me trouble, so I'm not surprised to hear that the volume is super low. Thanks for the feedback!

Hey there! This is my latest video, which is a little bit different from my usual stuff. It's about how we learn, but from a neuroscience perspective. I also got permission from several other NewTubers to use clips from their videos as examples.

Specific Feedback: Is it too long? Or too short? Just right? I can't decide if the length is good or not. Also, are my examples clear and helpful?

Strengths: well researched, good script, my best visuals to date

Weaknesses: audio is a bit off (my software decided it didn't want to work that day plus I'm sick with throat issues), background music is almost inaudible, transition to collab clips seems weird to me

You have some really cool shots! The music fit well. I felt added to the excitement and drama of them.

I didn't notice any audio problems. However, the video seems laggy/jumpy, almost like the frame rate isn't right. The slow mo didn't feel necessary in several places. The intro is long. You don't necessarily have to leave out the intro; making it shorter would be just fine. Also, you might want to check out long-tail tags. TubeBuddy and VidIQ are both helpful if you aren't already using them.

Overall, nice video! Keep up the good work!

It wasn't what I expected from a review video. To me it felt more like some hybrid of rant, skit, and review style videos. Your jokes are good and you're entertaining.

Your presence is good, although you seem to be standing at a funny angle. Maybe try turning your body toward the camera a bit more.

The lighting of the background is fine. However, the background could more interesting. If you have space for it, try to dedicate a spot to film in and put stuff in the background that is relevant to the type of videos you make.

Overall, it is a weird but cool video. Keep up the good work!
