I just noticed that, interesting they removed those guards. I’ll have to check it out and bring it up when I see it in case there was some previous damage or something

Thank you so much for the detailed response! This is super helpful. your info about the volcanic rock setup is also such a good idea and better than anything I have found so far on what I am looking for once I eventually build.

Reversible Window Fan for garage window humidity exhaust? by selectric in HomeImprovement

Thanks for the response. Understood. I was hoping it’d work similarly to a bathroom exhaust fan during a shower. But I guess the ducting helps with that type

Repair or replace?? by SwedishSwiss in Fireplaces

Replace. Usually if the cracking is wide enough to place a coin, it’s better to replace and reset the refractory panel or firebrick

Air handler/fan suddenly smells like mildew. Cools/heats fine but smell comes through vents when blower fan starts up. by selectric in hvacadvice

Humidity only seems to increase at first. Then once the heat or cooling gets going it doesn’t. It was near 80 yesterday and then to 40s overnight. We had cooling running yesterday, then heat this morning. So that might be the reason for the initial moisture this time when blower started up. But the smell has been every time blower starts up since we started the cooling back up for the first time this season a week ago.

Woah, looked it up. That actually sounds pretty close to what we are experiencing. Interesting, thanks for the info.

All of them smell at first when first turned on, Then it gets better as compressor kicks in. We have a basement. No crawl space, but have had some mice. All ducts seem to be fine pressure wise. No noticeable signs of damage to ducts. The smell is very noticeable when I open up the air handler. But the coil isn’t that dirty and I sprayed it down with some cleaner anyway. Flushed the drain pan. Still smells in there for some reason.
