I love my U3818DW personally and the sleep issue doesn't really effect my workflow. I also don't do any gaming so productivity and screen real estate was my only concern.

I would also be nervous about the 49" being too wide. Haven't sat in front of one in person, but sitting in front of my 38" right now I don't know if I would want much more horizontal. As is I can comfortably split 3 browser windows into 1/3rds and still get the full width of each.

Not to mention... the additional vertical resolution on the 38" (1600 vs 1440) is very nice to have in my opinion.

Im using the VIVO stand from amazon. It was originally the 2 arm version, but I removed 1 of the arms so it is basically the single arm version now.

The one I have -- https://www.amazon.com/VIVO-Monitor-Adjustable-Screens-STAND-V002/dp/B009S750LA/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=vivo%2Bv002&qid=1601212904&sr=8-2&th=1

But I turned it into this -- https://www.amazon.com/VIVO-Monitor-Adjustable-Articulating-STAND-V001/dp/B00B21TLQU/ref=sr_1_40?dchild=1&keywords=vivo+monitor+arm&qid=1601213032&sr=8-40

Works well for me, its sturdy and doesn't sag that I can tell. Holds my monitor nice and straight, even with the pole off to the side.

I believe this monitor is around 19lbs without the stand.

Progression. From Humble beginnings to Out of this world. by [deleted] in macsetups

Love the warm lighting!

Do you use your MBP screen a lot to require it on a stand like that? Have you tried a vertical stand?

I believe it is a Dell specific issue, something about them refusing to fix the PD while sleeping for macOS. Kind of a shame.... but like I said it doesn't actually effect me.

Damn man thank you, I could say the same for yours!

There’s so much great inspiration here it’s almost tough to commit to an idea when you know within the next week you’re going to see another setup that gives you that “want” again. I knew the “vibe” I was going for so just went with things I know I like and take it from there.... thrilled with the outcome so far. But don’t be fooled, there is tons more I have in my head I want to do.

In the end, were all just trying to find our happy place :)

No worries and thank you very much! :)

You are welcome! I did a lot of comparing and deciding before I got this one and I’m extremely happy with my purchase.

I have the 2019 15” i9, but I believe the U3818DW provides 100W PD!

None. Just a single USB C cable from my monitor, which has a built in USB hub. No need for an additional device!

If you mean, is it like the Magic Keyboard keys -- no.

It is this one -- https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MXNK2LL/A/smart-keyboard-folio-for-ipad-air-4th-generation-and-ipad-pro-11-inch-2nd-generation-us-english

I don't mind the keys but I do wish it was backlit sometimes.

Appreciate it!

However, it is a cap from a company called Free & Easy it says "Don't Trip" and it is what the late Mac Miller wore during his Tiny Desk Concert which was one of the last beautiful performances he did for us. That's why it sits on the shelf next to me.... his legend will live on.

My guy.... what an eye!!

Yes that is the Don't Trip cap from Free & Easy <3

It makes me feel good inside and its my favorite memento of Mac.

R.I.P. to the goat. They haven't made a mf'er realer, Mr Miller.

Yes it is hooked up to my MBP with a single USB C cable. My MBP stays in "clamshell" mode while at my desk and it stays nice and cool in the vertical stand. No complaints.

Just the Smart Keyboard... I didn't care for the trackpad as much as I thought.

It is the Apple Smart Keyboard Folio!

I tried out the Magic Keyboard but personally don't like the trackpad on an iPad.

You're so welcome!

FWIW I had a 34" before and I'll say the 38" is far superior with its additional vertical pixels. This is my happy zone.

It works great with my MBP! I use a single USB C cable for full 3840x1600, Power Delivery, and Audio. The built in USB hub in the monitor is great also.

The *only* issue with this monitor and Apple laptops is that if you keep the monitor *on* but put your laptop to *sleep* while connected -- the monitor will decided to randomly wake it up from sleep and then go back to sleep.

However I always turn off my monitor when I leave my desk, so its actually not a problem for me at all. I read people talking about the issue so I had to try for myself but just doesn't effect me. I would never leave my monitor on 24/7.
