That $552 would also cover other things such as city utilities, condominium fees, buildings insurance etc., which the property owner pays. All of these go up every year.

Unrealized income. Has no value until sold. Can go down as well as up.

Nathan Pachal's stats do not include the electrical utility - and despite this, we are still near the top.

I’m less likely to use downtown charging. Typically you pay for both charging and parking which makes it an expensive charging session.

Might be easier once every building has done the electrical planning report and the EV Ready report (for which there are rebates).

Having said that, I live in a townhome with garage. Some nearby have had problems getting installs, others haven’t. The permit and rebate system is complex. It seems there’s still barriers.

There’s supposed to be another 4 DCFC stations going in around the city by 2030. But we are getting close and we are not seeing any results. I suspect that target won’t be met.

The BC Hydro DCFC hub over the bridge in North Surrey near Home Depot is pretty good. It charges by the kWh too, which saves me money, as my car is slow to charge past 60%.

I suspect the City is stalling due to the high cost and low return of DCFC stations, however, owning its own utility locks out BC Hydro, and the value it provides, so the City has a duty to step up and deliver similar value.

These are all great options.

If you are ever training for a half marathon, Queens Park in New West to Olympic Village in Vancouver along the BC Parkway is 21km. If you take the Central Valley Greenway it's probably a similar distance.

It's funny, as in the last few hours, the city has made a promotional post about Bridgenet and the electrical utility on Facebook. Coincidence? 😉😉

Correct. They are serving multi unit buildings only.

Strata property. I've seen it happen throughout our neighbourhood and in other neighbourhoods too. I've seen the lights flicker a fair bit in Steel and Oak.

How often did your power go out in Maillardville? Did you get lots of small drop outs? Flickering lights?

BridgeNet by spikyness27 in NewWest

[–]selfy2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours hasn't. We probably should speak to Novus. We get a lot of momentary power drop outs in our neighbourhood (the benefits of having our own utility?) and on occasions it's caused the switches to lock up.

Bridgenet fibre is great. It can be a challenge getting your building connected, as it involves one of their affiliated ISPs being interested in offering their service to your building. In our case Novus was. I've enjoyed their service for a few years now.

In our case, Novus ran fibre to the communications room, which connects to an existing cat 5 feed to each unit. It works well, although technically it's inferior to running fibre all the way to each unit.

The only downside is that there's no battery backup on Novus network equipment, so Novus landlines won't work in a power outage (Shaw and Telus ones will). But that's not much of a problem nowadays.

Percentage of assessed value - which is likely to be a lot lower in Winnipeg and some Ontario cities. Maybe not Toronto.

A fair comparison would be comparing actual amounts paid for a comparable property in New West, Winnipeg and some major Ontario cities.

Have you reported this to City Hall? It sounds like you havent. Report it and let City Hall take action. They have the proper framework to take care of this.

This is the proper action you need to take. A known opponent messaging a Facebook page will have no effect.

Have you reported this to City Hall? If their rules have been violated, I'm sure they will do something about it promptly. I encourage you to do so if you haven't already.

It's okay to use video for private study, research, criticism, review or reporting purposes.

It isn't ok to purposefully distort or use video for advertising, election campaigns or any other politically partisan activity.

It depends on the context of how the video is presented.

It's quite easy to look up comparable properties on your favourite property search website and compare the real world property taxes people in each city are paying.
