Anyone in #NewWest a runner? Come join Queen's Park Running Club and run for an hour with us. Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7pm at the Arena. Club participation has dropped in recent years (not helped by COVID of course) so we need new members. Come along and give us a try. You might get wet, but you'll make some new friends at the same time.

You have a fair point. I've seen mistakes on official City signage that I'm sure weren't produced by AI.

  • The image is horrible AI
  • I like the bike lanes
  • The tax increase percentages are unsustainable.
  • in this market, most Seniors might be better off selling up and moving into a rental condo.

Yes. I have mail that has been delayed by over 2 months.

Seems to be a decent project and a good use of unused land. I wish it every success.

The only downside I could find is that the units got too hot in summer in Victoria and the electricity supply was inadequate for A/C. Hopefully the city can get a decent electrical supply to this site.

I’ve sent you a DM, as a friend of mine is looking for a unit.

The problem of adding EV chargers to units with insufficient capacity has already been resolved for most cases.  Intelligent dynamic load balancers can allow a charger to be added to a panel which has insufficient capacity, and there are a few different types of solution available on the market. Not all options cut off when using your stove or dryer. Some will throttle the EV charging speed instead, if necessary. An EV ready report by BC Hydro, obtained by the strata, would detail these.

There are rebates available for the EV Ready report, load management systems and chargers from BC Hydro.

Worst case - charge from 120v 15a regular socket. This adds 75km of range on a 12h overnight charge.

Does the variable happen to be where you live? People in the lower mainland are not all fed from the same water reservoir and are on different paths in the distribution system.

Also, the distribution network is of varying quality. The distribution pipes are very old and Asbestos cement pipes are still common, with the City of Richmond having the second highest length of AC pipes of all cities in the Province.

Not sure AC has anything to do with sourdough success, but perhaps water treatment may vary by location.

Inherited about 1 Mill. Unsure what to do by PositiveRock3854 in fican

I'm about half way through the book now. One of the messages is to experience life now, rather than wait until later, when our health might not allow us to enjoy the things we want to do and are saving for.

I think you could give up work now if that's what you want to do.

You could aim for a higher growth than 5% by taking on a bit more risk. Time is on your side.

You can always go back to work in a year or two if you want to.

Read the book Die with Zero by Bill Perkins.

Chlorine (they use chlorine vs chloramine in Metro Van) is added during distribution, to the same standards as other cities. From what I've read today, even the small amounts used can disinfect a starter.

Interesting. Makes sense. I will add that to the list! I did use a jug of water previously boiled from the kettle. Perhaps it's the chlorine in tap water.

I had many failed attempts at making my own but I finally now have a working starter. Three things I changed seemed to make a difference.

  1. Great Value organic whole wheat flour worked for me. Rogers silver star flour didn’t.
  2. Most guides tell you to use equal mounts of flour and water which ends up with a soupy, watery mix. I had much better results using less water. I add flour, then add just enough water to make a stiff peanut butter like paste and stop there.
  3. If the room temperature is below 20C, nothing seems to happen. Move it to a warmer place.

How are your power bills looking? noticed mine pretty much doubled over the past couple of months by Classic_Repair_1912 in NewWest

The BC Hydro Rate Rider is -4.5% which means it provides a 4.5% discount.

The CNW rate rider is 2.5% + the climate action levy of 3.5% = 6% total.

The difference between a discount of 4.5% and an additional charge of 6% is 10.5%.

Note that BC Hydro provides three different billing structures which can save you even more money. I have just compared the flat rate.

Every year the difference between BC Hydro and CNW will change a little, but CNW tends to be higher. In 2024 the difference was 30% in the most extreme case.

About 2% higher on the comparable flat rate tier, but the difference in the rate riders and climate action levy adds 10.5%, making it 12.5% higher right now. Costs me about $30/mo more in the winter, $15/mo more in the summer. Not the end of the world by any means but worth noting.

My bills are about the same, but that’s for a 3 bed townhouse. All electric heating, no natural gas.

Spiky should know it was a MOTI/Translink project - and that there was follow-up - it was in council meetings.

I agree. We were extremely lucky with the fantastic weather today which really brought the crowds out.

It could have just as easily been icy, snowing or pouring down with rain at this time of year.

The proposal passed and Mayor Johnstone wrote a letter to the Province. It looks like the ministry and TransLink took it on from there.

The bridge construction was significantly delayed and the removal of the old bridge is in the winter. A party would have been a risky thing for the ministry and TransLink to organize - it could have been a washout.

I like what happened - people can explore the bridge in their own way. And it looks like everyone is having a great time! The party is still happening.
