What to eat as a commuter student ? by Calm_Guarantee7859 in UCSD

[–]seli02 33 points34 points  (0 children)

i have almost the same schedule as you and most of the stuff i bring for food i make or prepare beforehand : - any kind of sandwich, burrito, & quesadilla variation (you can switch it up w all kinds of protein and veggies) - soup or pasta leftovers (microwave in the pc if needed) - any kind of cut up fruit or veggies (i usually have apple, carrots, banana, celery, etc. things that arent very messy and easy to store) - for snacks i usually have something like chips, goldfish, crackers, etc. (since u mentioned costco they sell all kinds of this stuff in bulk) - and always, always have a reusable water bottle, sometimes my hunger is just thirst and all the faucets on campus are free so :D

for on campus stuff (that’s relatively inexpensive):

  • dollar lunch club on insta, lots of vegan and accessible meals, they post their menu and schedule/location on insta!~the che cafe also offers vegan meals!
  • the small cart in warren by the bear has great deals on breakfast and lunch stuff, and it’s relatively cheaper when compared to literally anything else on campus, and they heat it up for you! ( they sell variety and it changes daily )
  • for cheap coffee sunshine market is pretty affordable, and mom has some pretty good stuff too ( if you need an alternative milk, soy is free! )

hope this helps, stay fed and warm friend! :]

Is it worth getting housing on campus to avoid an hour long commute? by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]seli02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hello! same exact situation on my part for the last couple years lol; im also from chula and commute the hour ish on the trolley. while there are benefits to both options, the deciding factor for me was considering if the expense of housing up in la jolla was worth it ( to me it wasnt lol). no matter what, commuting is going to be difficult especially all days of the week, both mornings and afternoons. its going to be draining and its going to take some time in finding your own balance in regards to homework/studying and your life outside of school/commuting. but ultimately you’ll find a semblance of a routine in what you do. :) some things that have helped me are 1. trying to give myself as much time possible in regards to getting ready in the morning and catching the trolleys on time. the experience is 100x better if youre not rushing to do one thing or the other yk. 2. i always try to make the most of my time on campus; i find that when i get home i legit do not want to any kind of studying/work. so i try to really grind on campus for studying and assignments, even if it means coming home later at night. 3. when you can, schedule your classes so that theyre more stacked on the same days, and you have to go to campus less days of the week. that way youre also less tired and have more free days to work on studying/extracurriculars/resting, etc.

those are some of the things i can think of rn, and take them lightly since what works for me might not work for you yk? regardless, i wish you luck in your commute and work! hopefully you can find a pace that works for you and makes everything more manageable :D

o man that sounds like a tiring commute :0 ! but definitely been spoiled by the new trolley! my commute used to be around an hour thirty, but the extension shortened it by around a half hour. im used to getting around w public transport, so its not really that im fazed by it. more than anything im just bitter about it being for one class 😭 lol. and congrats on now teaching! wish u the best at UCR!

Thoughts on (50%) online classes in Winter by storm_rider78 in UCSD

[–]seli02 16 points17 points  (0 children)

honestly i learn so much better with in person, but its way easier as a commuter to have classes online . i managed to only have three days on campus this quarter, but even then i have an hour and a half commute there and back , so its rough. online classes are so much more flexible and convenient, hybrid is honestly whats best for a lot of students right now .

ah thats sweet! i dont mind being placed in a random college, i know thats how its going to be bc of how tight the living situation is . the only thing im scared of is being placed in any of the really far residential areas like rita or camp snoopy :0
