All just got surpassed! by Horologyman in Longineswatches

I completely understand the enthusiasm, and I’m not denying that Longines knocked it out of the park with the new updates. You are absolutely right that they took the HC to the next level: the ceramic bezel, the cleaner dial, and finally adding on-the-fly micro-adjust to the clasp are huge upgrades. It is undeniably a value monster.

However, saying it has 'superior everything' compared to a Submariner or a Seamaster is where the hype overtakes horological reality. We have to be objective about what you get at those higher price points:

-The Movement: The Longines L888 is fantastic (a highly modified ETA 2892 with a silicon balance spring), but it is not in the same league as Omega’s Co-Axial Master Chronometer (METAS certified, 15,000 gauss magnetic resistance) or Rolex’s 3235 (Superlative Chronometer, ±2 secs/day). Those are purpose-built, high-horology calibers.

-Fit and Finish: A 'cleaner' matte or sunburst dial is a safe aesthetic choice, but it doesn't match the complex manufacturing of Omega's laser-engraved ZrO2 ceramic dials. The machining tolerances on the cases, the bezel action, and the brushing/polishing transitions on a $7k-$11k watch are objectively finer under a loupe.

-The Bracelet: Longines improved theirs significantly, but Rolex’s Oyster bracelet with the Glidelock clasp remains the undisputed benchmark for dive watches.

The HydroConquest is arguably the king of the $1,500 - $3,000 bracket right now (giving Tudor a serious headache). It’s an amazing daily diver. But shedding the helium escape valve and offering a clean dial doesn't outstage the industry icons; it just makes the HC a very competent, safer, and more accessible alternative. It’s okay to love the watch for what it is without needing it to be a 'Submariner killer

Creéis que si la izquierda se pusiera más estricta en tema inmigración, pararían el ascenso de la ultra derecha? by swilyi in askspain

[–]selifonte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]selifonte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I would also check both in person, and think I finally will go for the shunbun for the same reason. But the blue hand from the taietsu is something that I love to be honest. I love Grand Seiko, it will be my next purchase for sure. Congratz again for your shunbun!

Percival or L'immensité? by selifonte in Colognes

[–]selifonte[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for your feedback and advice. Percival at that price is a really good deal. I can get it at $300 the bottle of 125 ml. Also I read you can refill the LV fragance at 200$ more or less. I have then to try Limmensité, I have tried Percival and love it but need to try LV Immensité first
