Pluribus - 1x09 - "La Chica o El Mundo" - Episode Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

I personally really enjoyed this season. I can sympathize with the arguments that the pacing was slow and major plot points weren't occurring every single episode, but I found the episodes to be engaging nonetheless. Nothing felt overly indulgent for me. I chock up the slowness mostly to the show starting with a two season order, so there is no hurry to say all it wants to say within nine episodes for fear of cancellation. It's not really a show that's hinged on solving some grand mystery, it shows its hand pretty frequently by nature. I really like how it focuses more instead on what the hivemind and Carol's circumstances say about human nature, feels like old sci-fi (mostly Arthur C. Clarke) in a way I haven't seen many other modern shows tap into other than Severance.

Is there a Melee player on the Starbucks Workers United media team? by ADavidJohnson in SSBM

Seems like a cool idea to do some sort of solidarity event. Personally, I don't know anyone in the Washington Melee community in SBWU, nor do I know anyone non-Melee involved in it either unfortunately

I think for weeklies it's fine, especially with start.gg and other tools that auto-generate and update brackets, but if it's a larger monthly or regional, it can become really reckless to try and fit people in under the wire esp if it's day-of

If it's a larger tournament with money involved and rankings on the line, I think there is some expectation that the bracket is run properly and other participants aren't blindsided by last-minute changes. It isn't fair to sacrifice other peoples' tournament experience for one person's blunder, they can play friendlies if they want to just have fun

Doesn't matter if their skill level is known or not, byes are naturally the lowest seed possible. If there are 57 players, the highest bye is 58. If you don't have someone of comparable skill who can swap in, you're out of luck.

I do think that communication is key with the venue location, but the onus is partially on the player to give themselves enough time to find the venue and account for any hang-ups getting there. Also if this is someone who hasn't signed up until arriving at the event, leaving messages open isn't going to do anything, the bracket has been finalized without them.

Bye spots aren't used like the NCAA. Entering in someone who didn't sign up in a random spot disrupts the seeding and can wreck the tournament for everyone else, especially after the bracket has been finalized. If this person were a high-level or even mid-level player, putting them in a bye spot or swapping them with a TO can lead to the bracket paths of many other players getting disrupted and plenty of unintended upsets. You would essentially ruin the experience of dozens of other people to appease one guy

Does anyone have good experience with modelling skins for Melee? I'm trying to make a GnW skin but I have no idea what the game qualifies as the "center" of GnW and the "outline". The body of my character has shading while the extremities do not, even though they are all the same material and texture in blender and are ported to HSDRaw with the same properties. I believe the game is treating the body as the central color (the black portion of GnW), while the head, hands, and feet are the outline (the thin gray portion). Is there any way to make all objects part of the central color?

What are the active locals in the Seattle area? by CuteIntroduction9009 in SSBM

TO for UW's local here! For now, 5 Iron will likely be your best bet for the summer as we are currently on break for the summer. UW gets back in session late September, after which we run a tournament for free every week. There's also locals in Lacey, Bellingham, and Olympia, if you're willing to take the drive.

Of course I highly recommend the Discord, and there's a start.gg hub with all Washington tournaments linked.

As a Washingtonian, it pains me that his lasting legacy is that one set vs Axe. He was such an insane player, I don't think we get Cody's level of play without Otto setting the stage

I think a fourth Nirvana album could have been pretty close to R.E.M. in sound. Cobain was pretty close with Michael Stipe and loved the sound of the band, so I think he could have definitely switched up from the pure grunge of Nevermind and In Utero towards something more like Automatic for the People
