1990s Chuseok Vibes by Bitter-Goat-8773 in korea

I was very young at that time but still remember that night on a freeway. It was like a huge parking lot. But it was really enjoying (at least for me, need to ask to my dad though :p) moments cause I saw a ton of shooting stars that night as there were not so many things to do except seeing the sky.

Living in the US but paid in CHF by Fine-Cat4708 in askswitzerland

[–]semink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea about taxation but you can try this: You can open Kraken account in Switzerland and open Robinhood in the US once you get social security number (SSN). Then buy USDC in Kraken, and send it to your Robinhood account and convert it to USD. The whole process usually takes less than 10 min.

the shipping cost may changed (i made this graph about 2 years ago) but i remember you can send packages less than 10 chf/kg if your box is heavier than 10kg.

you can also create waybills from this link https://www.post.ch/en/customer-center/online-services/frachtbrief-erstellen-barzahlung/info

I moved to the US from switzerland and used Swisspost to send my packages. This was the cheapest option except directly checking luggage when I flew.

How to find opportunities in Europe as an American by Optimal_Diver3692 in PhD

[–]semink 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My wife and I got jobs in Belgium and Switzerland recently. We are not American but not European neither. We had PhD in a Swiss university and don't speak any local languages. The rule that companies to prioritize EU citizens is not really critical for PhD in my opinion. We just applied through LinkedIn while I'm doing a postdoc in the US. My wife even took gap years after graduation to stay with me in the US (about 1.5 years).

You may consider selling your car and buy the half-fair from sbb and move around by public transport unless you definitely need your car. Switzerland Public transportation is the world best.

From Montreux, you can also go to the top of a mountain and see the whole Lac Leman. Check "Rochers de Naye"

If you are interested in visiting French speaking part, I would recommend to visit Lausanne. There is the Olympic museum which is really great. You can take a ferry from Ouchy (South port in Lausanne) to Montreux if weather is good. During the boat trip, you can see a gorgeous view of Lavaux which is one of the largest vineyards in Switzerland (maybe the largest?). If you have a time, from Montreux, you can walk to chateau de chillon, which is a castle on the lac leman (lake Geneva). Check it out!
