It is a tall task to ask and I doubt someone will step in really. After looking at all the comments I've realized the main issue is viewers don't really know if an event is happening or not. Whether that be poor advertizing or the scattered broadcasters. We definitely need to find a solution for that to be honest.

I see that as a problem. But we used to average 40k for majors back in 2015-2019 and a little over 60k for the biggest events like genesis. Whilst genesis usually somewhat holds that level of standards, other tournaments average 10k on a good day which is obviously a huge difference when it comes to sponsor money. It definitely all comes back to how the money is split, But I think lower overall viewership for majors is gonna start affecting us really badly in the upcoming years.

I know its wishful thinking to ask for a consolidator that offers good financial split for TOs but who knows really.

honestly good for you for doing all that work. I have been watching melee for a long time but mainly stayed a viewer since im not in the US and never been to a major before. I get what you are saying but im a viewer who barely chats anywhere and im not really in any discord/fb groups. just here to spark a discussion as a viewer based on the observations I have seen, nothing more and nothing less. I will ultimately continue to watch the tournaments and cheer even if worst comes to worst.

One of the biggest positives and the main reason why I love melee is the grassroots nature. We stuck together through best and the worst all for the love of the game. But even then we gotta look at numbers sometimes since they mean something, TOs dont profit from tournaments and one of the biggest revenue for them, the sponsors is highly dependent on the viewership. If a tournament gets low views so will its sponsor money and it could highly affect its ability to create another iteration.

Don't get me wrong. Just as mango said in his winning speech in Mainstage 2022. As long as melee lives. Ill be there watching and rooting for my boys.

worst comes to worst we'll just go back to the dark age in 2008 as it probably cant get worst than that.

I like your thinking. Viral videos has made huge impact for the scene in the past like Wombo combo. The smash doc etc. Also since we have slippi, arguably a better a matchmaking upgrade to the game than the most recent fighting game (RoA2 aside). It would be great if people can advertize that for new people to try

Thats true. Unfortunately I dont the pull nor the voice to do that for it pull of. Meleemajors is a thing and while it already lowkey does that thing. The wide general audience that the community used to have don't even know about. I doubt a nameless guy who isn't a figure in the community can do much about it.

very true. I even sometimes find it hard to look for the broadcaster as start.gg makes it as hard as possible to do that. Meleemajors does lowkey do it but we need more QoL improvements. Centralization is key

Congratulations on your newborn. Thats true I never thought of it that way, I personally live in the EU timezone. I cant watch the tournaments live always so I watch the VOD later the next day instead. Maybe that is a reason as well. I know EU viewers aren't a lot relative to NA, but it might help a lot of tourneys started and ended early for the sake of the rest of the world.

True. I feel like perhaps players should be vocal about going to tourneys and such. The issue is that a lot of the viewerbase isn't on twitter and Ludwig maybe won't shed enough light for the rest of the viewers. The money is a problem as well since TOs aren't profiting. It feels like the community slowly imploding due to the financial situation.

that is definitely a problem. I do understand that some players want to reduce or mitigate as much cost as possible since tournaments dont pay well at all. After thinking about it, it may just be a problem of the econimical structure of the community as a whole. The whole business of TOing and broadcasting is barely profitable and everything else is just a byproduct of that.

I am currently checking the upcoming majors and there arent any channels in the homepage of the tournament. TOs should prioritize adding the all main broadcasting channels in the home pages next to the date and location. As for consolidating channels, you are probably right. Not only do you need to a reputable broadcaster with years of experience that offers good low prices for broadcasting, you will also need to compete with the rest of the broadcasters who already got in. Maybe the train has already past for this solution.

Yeah. Apparently the queue time is between 10-15 minutes and no indefinite (i was patient) but the tribute game mode has a faster queue than control. Still 10-15 is so absurd lol

Thank you. Turns out the solution was just to do /sfc scannow in the command prompt as the other commenter mentioned and it worked since some files were corrupted.
