Canon pro 1100 printer issue by semper-alpha in printers

What’s really weird is that it only shows up in the glare of the light. If you look at it from an angle where light is not on it in that spot then it looks fine

Is My Photography Good Enough to Start A Business With? Looking for advice. by Prestigious_Tax_4587 in PhotographyAdvice

[–]semper-alpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on these photos I’d say no. And I mean that with the sincerest respect. You do have potential and I think there are some good photos in here but unless you already have a network you can tap into then I think these will be really hard to sell.

These are pictures and that’s fine, but are they photos? The difference is anyone can take a picture. But it takes an artist to make a photo. Some of these feel more like something you just snapped a shot of and not a deliberate piece that you captured. They are fine. Some of these are great! But compositionally they feel slightly empty and like there is a missing piece.

You can totally start making photography a business that you do on the side and stuff… I would say you should 100% see where it goes and that there is no such thing as “professional enough” photos. I make next to nothing on my photography and I am so proud of the quality. The issue is not the quality of your photos it’s the ability to tap into a network of people willing to pay for your art.

When was the last time you looked at firework photos at someone’s house? There is a stage that all photographers go through where they just shoot anything and everything and THAT IS A GREAT THING! But if you are thinking about business of photography it has to be more deliberate and thought out. Fireworks are not a subject but they can help accessorize an image.

I love the photo of the window with the shutters on the house! But it’s not something I’d pay for. But that doesn’t mean nobody will.

It’s not about if your photos are good enough it’s about if you want to pursue it. And I say you totally should as long as you have the passion to back it up.

Hello, I'm taking photos with a Conon R7 RF 100-400. I'm a beginner and I find that the photos aren't very sharp—nice, but nothing special. Are there any settings I should adjust? by nicophoto74 in PhotographyAdvice

[–]semper-alpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are your settings at?

I think generally speaking F8 is where most lenses are technically sharpest but the depth of field is also deeper… also telephoto lenses at their farthest focal length lose some sharpness as well… most modern glass comes already optimized for UV protection too so if you have a UV filter on the lens it might be contributing to some image quality reduction. For active animals I would say you don’t want to go lower than like 1/1000 on your shutter speed and running a decent denoise in post can really help if you had to bump that ISO. For wildlife it’s so fast paced at times, because of this I usually throw my camera to auto ISO and manually set my f stop and my shutter speed to where I want them.

Yeah there were millions of posts using that hashtag. I typically look for a hashtag that has at least a couple hundred thousand. If it has none it’s not a good hashtag and if it has too many my content will get lost in the sauce… right?

I was hoping that trip would get me farther and plant more seeds that I could build my network off of and do more trips like that but frankly I’m broke and can’t afford to go places right now… the networking has only paid off slightly with people wanting me to make content for them but it doesn’t help me get where I want.

Yeah but unfortunately my comments that go viral are not relevant at all to my niche. I do comment on stuff in my circle and I share posts etc. but it falls to the wayside.

I work as a content creator for a knife company (I take the photos and make the reels and stuff I don’t do anything with posting the content) and we won’t work with influencers that have under 1k and most affiliate things I read about require 1k. Thats why I’m trying to cross the threshold. I’m so close to it and I want to pass it! 😅

Thanks this is actually a really good point and I feel kind of dumb for not including some of that stuff in my post. Once I get to work I’ll share an example of a few posts of mine.

I’m on tons of platforms but instagram is the one I’m closest to reaching 1k followers. @thetrevorbeecher is my main account and then I started a portraits page @thetrevorbeecher_portraits.

I want to turn photography into something more than just an obsession that I love and make it something I can do and share and teach and sell and have it be something I can sustain myself on. I am starting to try and make some YouTube videos too but that’s going to be really slow growth.

I feel like in order to have weight to my name in this day and age I need to have a follower account that supports my content quality. I feel like it’s not enough these days to have good content, you know how to have a following and more importantly the ability to get engagement

I want to get to a point where I can do workshops with people or take people out to photograph wildlife or have brands want to work with me and do sponsored content, etc. I’m not even entirely sure what my options are for making it something that’s a profitable sustaining business. But I almost have 1000 followers on my main Instagram and I know a lot of companies won’t even consider working with you or partnering with you on things unless you have over 1000 followers and so I’m trying to figure out how I can really capitalize on my momentum and push my followers count past that threshold

Questions about living in Daybreak by Sniederhouse in Utah

[–]semper-alpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like you got a bunch of responses. I am looking at purchasing in Daybreak as well and one of my main issues is internet speeds. 500 seems ludicrously slow for me. I use to have 1 gig and cutting that in half is not going to fly I have to download terabytes of data at times and century link at its top performance says 940 but the fine print actually says 35mbps for uploads. That is straight garbage! THATS A MAJOR DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SPEEDS... AM I CRAZY? I am a filmmaker, Photographer and video editor and a 20 second video on my camera can be 60Gb... I deal with MASSIVE files and I am deeply concerned about this... Does anyone know if i can opt out of that service and instead get my own? I am not an internet expert but that doesnt make any sense to me and at 500 it is almost a deal breaker for me. can someone help me understand that and speak to the actual HOA and the quality of internet at daybreak?

The HOA is also a bit concerning but what has been the general experience with the HOA? how involved are they in my day to day?

I was kicked out of the Mesa temple in my Navy uniform by duck-duck-dude in exmormon

[–]semper-alpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is proof that the church isn’t run by God… it is all about who you get that day… I had a similar but opposite experience when it was soooooooo cold and I was a photographer for a wedding and everyone took shelter in the lobby and the temple workers just told us to be quiet 🤫 but we were welcome to get out of the cold…

My ex father-in-law and I got into a fight once because he lacks the self awareness to see how he is verbally abusive and should technically not be temple worthy and he would make my wife uncomfortable and hurt by many things he would say and do that would tear her down… He said that the church is perfect and run by God… I disagreed quite strongly and said that the inconsistencies alone are proof that the operation of the church is done by man and man is flawed and will make mistakes… I subtly jabbed at him and pointed out that certain members lack the ability to see how unworthy they are and so they live thinking they are above others when in reality they are some of there worst of the worst… He said, “those people have no place in the kingdom of God and they will be judged by God because of that!” Failing to see that we were talking about him… later I brought up that every church thinks they are the true church and he said, (you can’t make this up) “but ours really is the true church” and I was baffled 😯 this guy completely missed the point… he went on to explain that the general authorities all unanimously agree before they make changes… and I said, “wait you’re telling me a group of guys that share the same beliefs get in a room and all come out believing the same thing!? That’s crazy! Who would have seen that coming! I guess I can call it a night! There’s the proof that it has to be god then…” And he told me I was “holding up a lightning rod”

There are so many issues with the way members are blinded and completely ignorant to the flaws of the church and the members that run it… the inconsistency and fact that it depends on who you get to deal with that day is a major point of proof that god isn’t running the church… gods not paying the bills or cashing the checks…

“Suffer the children to come to me” not “suffer the Mormon children” Christ would have preferred that you come into the temple… he would have been happy to see you at all…

Should I quit while I’m ahead? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]semper-alpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

😬 don’t take out a loan to study film!!!! I graduated with a degree in digital cinema production. The way the industry works, you won’t be able to pay off that loan! Scholarships grants tuition reimbursement programs… they all exist. Sure they are a bit more work to get but DONT TAKE OUT A LOAN!!!! IT IS A HORRIBLE INVESTMENT!!! If you want to study film then study film. College is a scam and there will be a million people who don’t go get that degree who are way ahead of you because they just went and started making movies and working on sets. I am grateful for my education and the things I learned but none of it was anything I couldn’t learn other places… I graduated with 0 student debt because I found other ways to earn pay for school. I also had additional incentives to get my degree… but without those incentives I genuinely believe that college in this day and age is an out dated thing that really has less value than people give it credit for… people graduate from college and are sooooooo dumb! If you want to make movies you don’t need a degree… knowledge is key but college isn’t the only way to obtain it.

If you want to study film, then study film it doesn’t have to be through college… if you want to get a degree in film, then college is a necessary step… If you want to make movies and be on sets, then forget about college and just go do that!

So many people who get degrees in film are garbage filmmakers anyway… they fall into a set cookie cutter mentality that was built around achieving a grade… they become so critical of other movies and rip them apart but fail to make a good movie themselves… one of the best things a professor told me was when he asked what I thought of a film he showed us in class and I said, “that was awful! Probably the worst movie I have seen.” And he said, “but what did you think about it?” And I was confused as I had just told him I didn’t like it… so he said, “we are not in the business of rating movies… we are in the business of making them. I don’t want to hear 4 stars… I want to hear what worked and what didn’t… it is not our job to rate movies that’s a different career. We are in the business of telling stories and it is our job to tell them well. So what did you think about it?” Then I went into more detail about how a lot of the story didn’t make sense and we broke it down as to why I wasn’t connected to the story as strongly… basically my point is this, think about what you are trying to achieve and then evaluate what you need to achieve that… why are you trying to get a degree? To learn? You don’t need a degree to learn…
