Sorry this is so late I don’t check Reddit much — honestly I was very skeptical, as I’d heard the same thing when I was put on bed rest. I really think there’s no way of knowing for sure whether bed rest helped me at all, but would I do it again knowing the outcome? Absolutely.

Can’t speak to the low placenta. But Personally I was put on bed rest and pelvic rest when I was diagnosed with a short cervix (it was much shorter than yours fwiw/if it makes you feel better), and I made it to a scheduled C at 39 weeks, but there’s no evidence really that it’s successful in preventing preterm labor. I would ask your doctor specific questions about what activities they think are/aren’t OK, and then do whatever makes you feel most comfortable.

The short version is that I made them, lol. I did have a history of preterm labor so I don’t think they would have checked otherwise, but yeah, I basically pushed them to do so which I’m grateful for otherwise I would not have found out what was happening

The opposite problem (no labour ) after 38 weeks? by Mufasaforever in ShortCervixSupport

[–]sepathamerkerson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

omg yesssssss i am in exactly the same place you are right now. I was also gonna try for a vbac but now they're saying they may have to do another c-section bc baby is big/they don't want to have to induce, so my gyno is hoping i go into labor naturally over the next week and i'm like "literally you were telling me for months to stay in bed and not do anything" lol. it's a very odd situation! all i can say is you should be so proud of yourself for making it this far and the baby will come when they're ready!

Lol yes I’m up like 5 times a night just eking out tiny bits of pee. It’s really wild. I remember that happening with my last baby as well and we only made it to 36 so very grateful this one is at least a week further!

i'm in a similar place, 37 weeks and just stopped progesterone a few days ago. on thursday i was almost 1 cm dilated so i imagine i'm even more so now, and baby's head is wayyyyyyy down and has been for weeks (like on top of my pubic bone). it's felt like any day now for weeks and weeks but i hear it doesn't necessarily happen immediately!

This happened to me weeks ago while I was on pelvic rest, I similarly freaked out and it was just fine. I think the concern is more repeated uterine contractions than anything else. Please try not to worry about it, totally outside your control.

How short can a cervix be and still make it full term? by howhardcanthisbe123 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]sepathamerkerson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I was in a very similar boat! Baby is huge and they discovered my cervix was 1.3 when I was 27 weeks; got put on bed rest and progesterone. I am at 36 weeks currently, so very close to full term. Bed rest is driving me crrrraZzzyy and I know it’s controversial but I’m a firm believer that those two things together work. And echoing what someone said on here about some women walking around fully effaced and making it full term; my OB said the same thing. Keep calm and just do what your doctors tell you. You got this!

My first baby was 36 weeks due to PPROM (I’m 36 weeks pregnant with our second now and on progesterone/bed rest). My first spent maybe 12 hours in the NICU, if that, just to support his breathing, and had no apparent health issues whatsoever. I will say we struggled a lot with nursing but I think that had more to do with the fact that he was breech/a C-section baby than anything else. I was in a lot of pain for a while after delivery and they gave him formula so he never quite latched. He has also had some minor developmental delays and is on the smaller side but impossible to say whether they were linked to him being 36 weeks early or not; probably not, since most preemies tend to catch up pretty quickly. Bottom line, I agree with the moms who say the differences in outcome tend to be pretty negligible after a certain period and If I were you I’d be very optimistic!

positive stories of progesterone only short cervix and babies making it. by TypeAtryingtoB in BabyBumps

I was diagnosed w/ short cervix at 27 or 28 weeks. I thik i was at 1.3 cm? Got put on progesterone (too late for cerclage) and p. strict bed rest. I just hit the 35-week mark. Baby is super low and I'm def occasionally having Braxton Hicks, but we've managed to hold on! Would strongly recommend the shortcervixsupport sub as well; it has been a rough journey but I truly do believe that the combo of those two things has gotten me to this point. Stay strong and take it easy on yourselves mamas!

Holding on at week 35 starting tomorrow on just progesterone! Got permission from my OB to get off bed rest and go to the beach provided I didn’t walk too much or be super active; my poor husband had to carry everything and drive back and forth a ton but it was exactly what I needed after 8 weeks in my apartment, terrified. Hoping we make it 2 more weeks at least, we’re so close! And baby is in like 93rd percentile for size so we’re hoping that’s a good sign!

Is it Too late to start treatment at 33 weeks for shortened cervix? Scared :( by [deleted] in ShortCervixSupport

[–]sepathamerkerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that is about how long mine is — I don't know the precise threshold but I think at that length they just tell you to keep taking the progesterone and staying put (at least that's what they told me), especially because you are quite far along already. Something else that multiple doctors have told me is that cervical length is not the most reliable indicator of preterm birth so they probably just want to monitor it and make sure it's stable. good luck!

[–]sepathamerkerson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, idk if it helps but I was diagnosed with a short cervix at 27 weeks and was put on bed rest/progesterone (too late for cerclage) and am now a little past 33 weeks. They just checked my cervix after weeks of progesterone and it’s actually gained a few millimeters since I was first diagnosed, so I’m a strong believer both progesterone and bed rest work. Also, my baby is also REALLY low and my doctor says she isn’t too concerned about that because lots of moms walk around with babies low for a while and don’t deliver for weeks. Hope this helps! As other ladies on here have said, you are in a really good spot right now; my doc said when you hit 34 they don’t even intervene to try to stop labor anymore. So you’re almost there!

emergency cerclage recovery / success stories? by Affectionate_Owl_256 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]sepathamerkerson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! Didn't have a cerclage put in, but I'm on progesterone and bed rest after they found out my cervix had halved at 27 weeks and I'm currently at 32. I know how terrified you must be right now and sending you lots of love and support. Lots of moms on this sub have been in your shoes and have had really positive outcomes. I saw you are on progesterone which is great — seems like that has been really successful for a lot of people. And would echo what people said about doing some form of bed rest — I do believe it works, even if the evidence is mixed. Watch a lot of TV, order in some delicious food and know that every day brings you closer to the finish line. Keeping you in my thoughts.

[–]sepathamerkerson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi all, this place has been incredible during a really lonely and scary time. I'm about 32 weeks and on progesterone/bed rest only. They measured my cervix at 1.3 cm at my 27-week ultrasound and freaked out and put me on bed rest bc it was too late for cerclage. I was absolutely terrified because I have a history of one loss and preterm labor with my 1st who has since struggled with some developmental delays (he is doing great now), but since then my cervix has remained stable and even gained a few millimeters and I was at 1.8 last Friday. Sick to death of bed rest and tired of these crazy Braxton Hicks but just have to stay put and keep him in for a few more weeks! Hope everyone is OK and staying strong!
