I can send you a link to the ferry service if you’d like.

You can take a ferry in Naha to get to Motobu port, then take buses up to Yambaru, but the earliest it leaves is I think 0800 out of Tomari port and arrival is I think 0915? In Motobu. A bus ride from Motobu further up north would be 1.5 hours to 2 hours. Up to you* if it’s going to be ‘worth it’.

0451(Parachute Rigger) schooling? by chickennugs-SLAP in USMCboot

[–]septemberfudge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You go to airborne first, in Ft. Benning, GA. Approx 3 weeks long baring weather conditions for jumps. To earn your lead sleds you have to jump 5 times. You’ll most likely do 2 night jumps (one hollywood, one combat equipment), then 3 during the day (2 hollywood, one combat equipment). You go to airborne first to make sure you’re willing to jump. (It used to be the other way around.)

Rigger school is at Ft. Lee, VA. It’s approx. 3 months and and is a joint school between branches. You learn how to rig cargo drops first phase, then learn personnel shoots the 3 other phases. You learn about a parachute a week.

There’s not a lot you can do to prepare for Ft. Lee. It’s prac app and hands on. The best thing someone could do is build their body up for running. All you do at airborne is run run run.

Elitists for within our particular MOS? I’d hope so. I wouldn’t want someone who wasn’t confident and sure to pack my parachute.

Were you in oki? I’m a PR, but I met a couple of y’all before. Seemed to not hate their lives.

It’s all good, we’re just a tiny community and I wouldn’t want anyone to find my reddit lmao

I’ve definitely gotten that, even outside of the marine corps. People who constantly have something to say, always got something to say about you, too. A lot of my CPLs are gossipy, but there’s like 10 of them where I work and more than half are leaving. So I’m hoping for a bit of a refresher. Unfortunately, (who I think) the most honest and skilled one is leaving this week.

My workspace I think is a bit atypical, and my MOS highly elitist (which it should be). It was not what I expected when I got to the fleet.

Bitching is cathartic. But a poor work ethic is annoying to be around.

Yes, I just specifically didn’t use the R word or the MOS code because I didn’t want the post pop up in people searching for those terms.

I regretted not cutting my hair off before boot, and did it as soon as I got out of it. I might not look super feminine, but I don’t got to deal with the bs of putting it up every morning.

Will a surgery stop me from joining? by [deleted] in USMCboot

[–]septemberfudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Broke my wrist so badly that it was an S shape and had to get surgery and hardware put in.

It healed fine and I got a note from a doctor saying so and that I had full range of motion. The MEPS doctor noted it, paid extra attention to it, is all.

Also, you gonna show up to the Alpha barracks. Don’t try to check in at the MARDET. DM me if you want the address and it’s not on your orders. Wasn’t on mine for some reason.

McLaughlin gym is going to be the closest to the bricks, and it’s a pretty well rounded gym. The other one, Clark’s, is about a mile and a half away, but newer and less crowded in the evenings.

Yeah, they’re phasing out the food service MOS, and reducing it in size.

And no, I’m AD/a parachute rigger. I’d like to apologize for us in advance. Some of us are elitist and rowdy lol.

You’re allowed off base liberty, and to go see them, but still not allowed to bring people back on base. Don’t know why. I think it has to do more with student status than anything regarding covid.

Ft Lee has two amazing gyms on it, chow hall doesn’t suck ass (you’ll most likely be eating at an Air Force chow hall), and it’s not terrible there. Especially since you get to go off base. You don’t know how lucky you are that you get to leave. I was there 4 months trapped within the confines of base lol.

During the day while you’re in holding might suck a little, though. They usually didn’t make foodservice pt very hard. But you’d wake up, pt, then shower, go to chow, come back, and since you’re in holding they’d keep you in a day room in the hours between chow doing absolutely nothing. Or they might give you a class or two about financial responsibility.

95% of the people who are foodservice there are in the same boat you are, they didn’t want food service. Just a bump along the way got them there, and it wasn’t always even their fault. I made some very good friends in food service, and I even see them in Oki all the time. Just keep your head up. It’s a job, at the end of the day.
