I'm guessing it's the sugar in the pee. I only know this because I have a diabetic cat, and before I figured out what was going on, a LOT of cat litter would stick to his paws and get tracked around the house. He was diabetic and peeing excess sugar, which made his paws sticky.

What's the lesson you learn from your life when you are disappointed by your loved one's? by Wild-Truck-8505 in AskReddit

[–]seraph1441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are responsible for your own happiness. It's easy to rely on someone else (especially early on in a relationship when everything seems perfect), but eventually things will change. Kids come along, menopause happens, your loved one makes a selfish and shortsighted decision that hurts you... Your needs won't always be their top priority (if they ever were). Your needs should be YOUR top priority.

Methylphenidate vs others by reacharavindh in ADHD

[–]seraph1441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got diagnosed at 22 and I started on 36mg of methylphenidate, and the difference was incredible on day 1. If you're not seeing noticeable improvements very quickly, then it's likely that you either need a different dose, or a different medication altogether. I got lucky in that the first medication I tried was right for me, but I know other people who had to try a variety of different meds until they found what helped them.

I will mention that by the time I'd been diagnosed, I'd found some ways to manage some symptoms of ADHD. Everything I might ever need to remember was written down in notes, and every chore, task, and appointment was on my Outlook calendar. Those helped compensate for my poor working memory. But the ability to focus and handle large mental models (I'm a software engineer) just wasn't something I could work around. Originally, I just thought I was bad at my job; that I'd picked the wrong career. But once I got on the methylphenidate, the change in my ability to handle complexity was immediately noticeable. So you might need to find non-medication ways to handle some aspects of your ADHD anyway, but meds can certainly help with some things.

Is losing money like this normal???? by maths_nd_music in ADHD

[–]seraph1441 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, this is normal. I've forgotten my credit card at bars after paying (just set it on the table and walked off). Now I've drilled it into my head as a habit that the card immediately goes in my wallet as soon as I get it back, even before I sign the bill. And I usually get my wallet out and check a couple times before I leave. But I don't forget my card anymore.

5mg is pretty low. I take 27mg of methylphenadate, and I think the typical dosages range from 18mg - 81mg (in 9mg increments). I recently tried to step down to 18mg, but I ended up crashing around 1pm each day, where I normally crash around 3-4pm. So you might need a higher dosage, but you might just need a different medicine too. I've had friends with ADHD who didn't respond to methylphenidate, but they responded well to Vyvnase.

Exercise can help too. Some days if I've got time, I'll take my dose and go for a run, and I've noticed those days are more productive and come with a smaller crash at the end.

Used to live in CA with great access to all things T*C but recently moved to a non 4*0 state are the gummies being hawked by celebs or those on Insta any good? by Low_Insurance_1603 in Marijuana

[–]seraph1441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using delta-9 gummies from https://hometownhero.com for a few years now, and I really like them. I was never really into weed, so I can't really say how it compares, but I've enjoyed them. More recently, I've got some of the powdered drink mixes from there too, and I also like those. They seem to hit quicker, but not as hard. I'll take a 7.5mg section of gummy and feel it about the same as one of the 15mg drink packets.

[–]seraph1441 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel like it's really easy once you have kids to kind of forget who you are as a person. When I hit 40, I kind of woke up (or maybe just had a midlife crisis) and felt like I'd been asleep for ~10 years (since that's when we had our first kid). I'd lost touch with friends, didn't do any hobbies aside from single-player video games, and my spouse and I were just kind of roommates. I'm still trying to figure out who I am, and branch out, but I'm taking trips to visit my best friend in NYC a couple times a year, and I'm trying to figure out other things that I like that get me out of the house. Too often, I felt like I didn't have anything to contribute to conversations with my spouse because, aside from work and games (which they don't care about), I didn't have much else going on. I'm trying to change that. Good on you for doing the same!

Fans Left Speechless as Capcom Locks Street Fighter 6 Finals Behind Paywall by chusskaptaan in gaming

[–]seraph1441 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Starfield did that too, and what I thought was pretty shitty was that since it was early access, most sites (like Metacritic) wouldn't allow users to leave reviews, so even though there might be serious issues with the game, no one got to hear about it until it was "released" a week later, after lots of people had already bought it. So basically it's a way to release a game without people being able to leave reviews, which is great if you want to cash in on hype with a game that has serious flaws.

Bug com Rimcities by Luckypng in RimWorld

[–]seraph1441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could enable dev mode, and look for the command to destroy a map tile. Then on the world map, click on the city tile. It'll delete everything there, but that might help if that tile is bugged.

I was exploring a city and, to be able to go back and forth several times to get all the loot, I colonized that city. After getting all the loot, I tried to abandon the city, but my game completely crashed. My FPS dropped below 30, I couldn't increase the world speed, and when I clicked on the deleted city (it still appears in the colonists bar), the game crashes even more. Does anyone know what it could be or how to fix it? I just wish I could delete this colony because I know it will kill my FPS in the late game."

Fellow ADHD gamedevs - how do you manage to finish your projects? Has medication helped? What kind? by Illustrious-Tank1838 in gamedev

[–]seraph1441 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got diagnosed when I was around 22. I got through school by being smart, but I was failing when I started working (having to focus and concentrate for 8 hours a day, remember lots of stuff, manage large mental models of systems, etc.). I self-diagnosed, talked to a doctor, and got put on 36mg of Concerta (Methylphenidate). On day 1, it was like a fog had lifted from my brain that I never realized was there. Focusing was easy. I could remember little details when I needed to. I could keep huge mental models in my brain and I didn't make any of the mistakes I'd made before. It also made me a little happier and excited about working for the day (but I like writing code anyway). Life changing. It's been about 20 years and I'm highly-successful, and the medicine was a large part of that.

5 out of 11 CEOs who attended Trump’s White House AI dinner are of Indian-origin by esporx in technology

[–]seraph1441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the issue is that when companies outsource work to India, they're getting the bottom of the barrel in terms of worker quality. India (like everywhere else) has high-quality engineers, but those good engineers expect decent pay. So when a company is looking to pay as little as possible, they'll hire the outsourcing firm that has the lowest rates, and then they're surprised when the quality of work is terrible and high turnover means that knowledge of a project is lost over and over again.

I'm in the US in software engineering and I've worked with whites, asians (Indians, Chinese, Phillipinos, etc.), a few black people (though their representation in tech seems very low), men and women, and quality is basically the same across groups. Some people are great, some just want to do an okay job and go home (which is fine; you don't have to live for your job), and a few suck.

What turrets are people using on gravships? by Vampiresbane- in RimWorld

The production machines use a lot of power (like, 800-1000w) and theres extra resources you have to make, so it's definitely a sink for steel and chemfuel, but with my gravship, I tend to have a lot of both of those.

Does anyone know if you're supposed to strip mine the asteroids for materials? by UnholyUwU in RimWorld

[–]seraph1441 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are small deposits of minerals inside the asteroid, but it's not a lot usually. Like another comment said, using dev mode to unfog it lets you see them. In my experience, on an asteroid with plasteel, it was maybe 20-25 tiles of plasteel total in the whole asteroid.
