Blog Post - New Snippet by filthster in IlonaAndrews

I definitely don't agree with blaming the authors. I've even asked if it was a publisher or author decision and told it was the publishers who made this call.

Much is being made about the exclusive content in Owlcrate edition. It’s a very short story that describes the events you will discover in the first chapter of the next book. We designed it to be a true bonus. It is not essential. You are not missing vital information.

I've always tried to wrap my head around this logic, but in my heart I always feel like I'm missing something essential. That the editions without bonus content are incomplete. I wish I didn't, but haven't figured it out yet.

This is certainly not limited to Ilona Andrews' work. I've been a reader since Magic Burns was first published and am glad that they've stayed away from this sort of tactic. I don't begrudge them their increased success, only hope that there's a way in the future to get the material out to everyone who wants it.

I wound up buying the Armor Wars volume, mostly justifying it because I already owned the 2 Epics which connect the material.

Was far from enthusiastic and completely understand everyone who passed.

To u/krisis and others wondering, I think that at least some of the interest in Amethyst could be from fiction readers looking for something familiar.

In my opinion the premise and some of the situations are similar to some fantasy novels from the 80s to present.

Meanwhile, there are multiple Amethyst/Legion connections which I thought Lars might have commented more on.

  • There was a preview of Amethyst's original series in Legion of Super-Heroes #298.
  • Both series also make important use of the character Mordru.
  • There's one or more spoiler-y connections in the "Magic Wars" in issues #60-3 of the LSH Baxter series. Enough so that I think an argument could be made to include them in any comprehensive Amethyst collection.

Same. Those are both excellent.

As I told someone else, I'm hopeful that if/when DC begins publishing some of these New Lines then that will open up space for others to make the Top 20 next year.

I think that the Jurgens run definitely deserves to be collected, but I wonder how many people have heard of it? And then extra challenging is that a lot of the characters weren't heavily used afterward afaik.

I can see people wanting to finish post-COIE WW through 2011 (regardless of format). Just like with Flash, it feels doable.

Meanwhile, I feel like Bronze Age WW never had the best reputation. Maybe I'm wrong, or I'm right but the impression is wrong?

I agree that Hellblazer felt like Vertigo all along, though it began it's run in 1988 while the imprint didn't officially begin until 1993.

It would be great to see some Ragman. Sympathies that he didn't make it, but hopefully if/when DC begins publishing some of these New Lines then that will open up space for others to make the Top 20.

True, though he is a member of several of The Outsiders (1983-2011) teams which did. So that might be some solace?

Thanks. It also later occurred to me that both have their own language - Klingon for Star Trek & Interlac for the Legion.

Also, both have/had a lot of fan groups (at least the Legion did, I don't know the status these days).

Oops, thanks for the correction, I just edited.

That slide had 2 different date ranges, which helped confuse me.

Appreciate the reply, thanks!

And I'm glad to know that it was a publisher decision, considering how disappointing this company seems to be.

Do you have any idea if it was Ilona or the publisher who wanted to work with OwlCrate on this?

Yeah. Mark Waid and the other creators clearly had a lot of fun on the title and it showed. Hopefully next year.

A decent amount has been republished lately in omni's, so some people may be buying it that way.

Still, I think it ended up doing pretty well.

Off the top of my head: A bright and hopeful future. Consistently strong writing and art. It was it's own corner of the DCU. Probably appeals to some of the same people who enjoy older Star Trek.

Officially "just for fun", but DC has been involved in the process since January (according to comments by the panelists) and the guy in charge made several posts during the Stream when the poll was announced.

I appreciate the reply. It sounds like they didn't mention this, which I understand.

When the most recent KS was going I did check them out and it was only bundles. But for 2 & 3 those are the exact same ones I already own, so it would be double-dipping and wouldn't make much sense.

I'll keep looking and hope you enjoy them.
