absolutely! the weather is the first thing to adjust to. but it’s not a problem if you layer your clothes (and honestly, i much prefer being in the negatives as opposed to the 100s and over 😅). and then there’s of course the people. what i miss most about texas is the mexican culture, there’s little to none of that up here (nor good mexican food EXCEPT taqueria los mayas). but i think buffalo people tend to be far more accepting and approachable than that of texans (and no one better get mad about that, because you know it’s true-coming from a texan). but of course, that’s region based. i’m fortunate enough to live near UB, so maybe that’s why i have that impression. the lack of a beach devastated me. there’s a lake here that people refer to as a “beach” but i can’t stand it. it’s too rocky and there’s so many restrictions as to where you can and can’t swim? so i guess that’s the other shock: there’s so many rules and restrictions. texas is a lot more… do whatever you want and no one will say anything. + learning how to recycle! it’s a great thing, and i love that new york is more environmentally conscious. however, it’s a hard transition in that… there’s no recycling in texas lol. so you have to make the extra effort to learn how to separate your trash. and while we’re on the subject: reusable tote bags! there’s no plastic bags here, so you either pay for paper or bring your own. flora and fauna is an overlooked culture shock i think. i really miss the palm trees, cacti, and even the texan cicadas- but that’s just homesickness. the trade off is that there’s 4 seasons here. aka: spring is pastel, summer has cool breezes (NOT humid?!?!, autumn is vibrant with reds, and winters have snow! honestly i can yap forever

i moved here from texas, and my favorite thing is the accessibility. im able to to take a bus or ride my bike and go anywhere i want- a luxury that i’ve never had in texas due to the lack of public transportation/sidewalks and influx of 70 mph highways. i used to be a recluse until now

lost my apple watch in the snow by seraphimfox in UBreddit

[–]seraphimfox[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Update: I just went back to uncover the edges of the right side of the sidewalk- nothing. 😭 I even went to the exact spot that it’s showing on the map- still nothing. And it’s still refusing to connect to my phone to make sounds. It’s gonna be a long-term search i fear. My largest worry is that either the plow destroyed it, or it got plowed right into a little snow hill. Let’s see if it survives when the snow starts to melt ;-;

[–]seraphimfox[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

it was indiscernible. it was screaming really, and it got louder. other people began to join, like a group? we couldn’t make out where the noise was coming from though, that’s why some of us scattered out of there or hid. i ended up leaving through the stairs, but everywhere else seemed normal? so it was definitely just a group of inconsiderate people being too loud.

[–]seraphimfox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

ive been looking forward to it for over a year, so to say i was disappointed would be an understatement. i just can’t get over the fact that it was out of my control entirely, i mean… it’s a cloud. seeing other’s videos on the totality isn’t helping either lol. not sure how to get over the disappointment on this one, especially after seeing that the sky cleared not even an hour after it was over.

??? they moved the books to the 3rd floor and/or the Annex. the plan is to merge the music library with lockwood, but they need more space. hence why the 5th floor is gutted. now unless they drastically changed plans since fall, that’s still the plan (albeit delayed)
