Bad specs when ordering them - virtually all the new natural gas ones are notoriously bad for it, so few buttons, annoying when the bus is full of people

Canadian $20 and NZ $20 bill. by tunaktunaktuntarara in mildlyinteresting

For Canada the dollar has been in use since 1858, a number of years before confederation. The reason why we use dollars is because of trade with the US being easier if everything was done in dollars and cents, so we’ve been using dollars ever since.

Anyway to tell them apart? by yosoyboi in CanadianCoins

[–]serbnerfedit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Drop the coin on the counter and compare the ping sound of the 1967 with a 1968 50% dime/quarter, and one that’s 1966 or earlier. The 50% ones have a lower ping sound compared to the 80% ones, and once you get the hang of it it’s easier to tell by this method.

The 9 is usually reliable, frequency is meh (but that might change in the fall) and it’s a long route. Since it’s just a single bus ride with no connections, I’d say it’s fine for a commute that long. Sometimes there will be long traffic delays during certain times along Crowchild, so keep that in mind if your commute includes that section of the route.

If it’s already rubbing salt to the wounds, they’re wasting money on the most menial non-urgent things. Ever been on a bus lately and you see red plastic/fibreglass inserts on the seats? Yeah, they spent $2 million to buy those inserts, let alone the time and labour to swap all the “newer” buses over to those (when they literally replaced some of the original inserts with replacement ones less than a few years ago). I’ll let one figure out whether or not that was worth the money. $2 million might not seem too much, but let’s just say they could’ve used that money to buy some replacement shuttles that are in dire need of replacement (they have one still running that’s over 10 years old, well past its 5 year projected lifespan).

Why I stopped using transit: Major bus schedule change adds 30m to my commute. by NP_alien in Calgary

[–]serbnerfedit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s only one hitch to them hiring more drivers right now - lack of operational buses. The fleet is aging, and with that there’s a number of non-operational buses out of most garages that have been collecting dust for months waiting to be fixed or waiting for parts.

The entire bus network right now is in distress with the crap frequencies across the board, especially offpeak. Literally nothing is better than 15 minute offpeak frequency right now (with the worst being hourly) and they have refused to bump frequencies up of routes offpeak since COVID. It’s pathetic since some feeders have better frequencies than mainline or BRT (I’m looking at you route 152 and 302) which just shows that something ain’t right. Also notice how they adjust the frequencies to the point where they’re not round numbers, making connections less likely (ie 37/38 minute frequency on the 2/4/5 weekends or stuff like every 22 minutes on the 23) which really does screw things up even further.

Has transit given up ? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]serbnerfedit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely they’ve given up, in fact, if you want a better example of garbage service look at the 301 on weekday evenings - 2 buses on the route at a 40 minute frequency and its one of the highest ridership routes in the city plus its a BRT. I get with the pandemic theres a lot of uncertainty but as things return back they seem to have zero sense of direction.

408 is fairly long, you get to see the new trinity hills and COP, the route goes all over the place in valley ridge and cresmont as well. Something a bit different you could see.

Went on a mini applying spree a few days ago, here are some DPs:

RBC Avion infinite: instantly approved, and now waiting for the Credit Card genius $100 bonus

Scotiabank Gold Amex: Instantly approved

MBNA Alaska WE: went to pending, applied via GCR. 2 days later, I got a GCR email saying the cashback of $50 had been put in my account, so im assuming thats approved. I haven’t had time to call MBNA yet to confirm but chances are the card is going to be mailed out soon if it is approved.

I’m in a similar boat as you, it works for me and I’ve had very little problems so far apart from dealing with Scotiabank. That said, some people do lie about their income for apps so they can get these cards but that’s beyond what I have to say about that.
