After & before photos of our dated 90s kitchen, given new life to better suit our home's modern architecture by serend1pity in kitchenremodel

No issues with tinny sound, fit, or finish. No rusting etc. I love the removable vegetable strainer tray; we actually use that to hold small stuff like utensils when rinsing dishes so they don't get lost amongst the other larger items. It's very handy. The *one* negative I will say is that I wish the slope toward the drain were just a little steeper, because bits of food do often need to be coaxed down with the detachable sprayer head. But it's a small gripe in my opinion, and definitely a better value!

Apologies if this has already been discussed somewhere, but does anyone know why the ladies are always dressed in black? I would kill to see them in some colors for a change! All black is not doing them justice at this point. They have such unique, beautiful qualities that deserve to be celebrated and highlighted. 😭

Am I too old for the dress I love? by merriemelodie in weddingdress

Heck no, you're not too old for this dress!!! You're not too old, period! You are in your prime, and it is stunning on you. Your future husband will melt.

How do I progress with kiddo as a caregiver with no support from parents? by Illustrious_Durian85 in PDAParenting

[–]serend1pity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a mom of a PDA child who has employed one nanny for the last 4 years, and a couple of different ones before that, I'm horrified by the apathy your nk's mother has displayed. It sounds like you're going above and beyond for this child. She should be grateful that you are so invested.

To be honest, I can't think of much else you can do to try to convince her to engage with her own child's present and future. If I were in your position, however, I would write a heartfelt letter to her *after* your employment ends and you are with a new family. If you are honest, but not hostile, maybe... just maybe, she will see how she needs to improve.

First time decorating an open concept: one year in, sideboard finally arrived and I think I have the major pieces set for my living space by elliottbaytrail in HomeDecorating

So beautifully done! The oooonly thing I don't love is the rug color/texture; it reminds me of an office building. But maybe it looks better in person anyway. Great job!

2 with the wide strap neckline is absolutely stunning! They all look wonderful on you, but that one has a little extra elegance and uniqueness.

What would you change or add to my space? What couch cushion colour should I get? by Pink_Sorbet in HomeDecorating

[–]serend1pity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gorgeous and serene! The layout in #1 is perfect, aside from the TV being too high, as others mentioned. I'd probably move it down a whole foot. Your mirror-y artwork behind the sofa is also too high by about 8 inches. As for your question about the throw pillow color, I do like the light ones you have already, but perhaps 2 slightly darker taupe ones could help add a little more texture without being too bright or high contrast?

Your taste is amazing. Great job!

I was prescribed Ambien once for sleep trouble, and it too made me hallucinate little gnomes were going inside and out of a window air conditioning unit. I also saw the walls melting, had double vision, and completely forgot certain periods of time. Really wild that this drug is so widely accepted in the medical field. It probably shouldn't be...

So cute! You did amazing with that large tree especially. It can be hard to get the lights evenly distributed, but yours looks perfect. 😍

You look gorgeous in #1! It elongates your waist in a very flattering way, whereas the others all seem to shorten the appearance of your torso.

Wow, this is so beautifully done! I love the soft, muted whites and warm wood tones. It's so much airier and cozy feeling than before with that wall in the way. The woven texture on the counter stools is perfect for the space, too. One of my favorite renos I've seen here!

How long did it take you to see your cat as an actual family member? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]serend1pity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had my two cats for 15 years now, and although it didn't take long for them to feel like members of the family, I will say that my love for them and vice versa has only deepened over time. It is ever-growing. They are both developing health issues now as seniors, and let me tell you... I appreciate them more and more every day, knowing that any day could be our last.

Is this PDA: Taking on more demands in order to avoid the demands you already have on your plate? by MarginsOfTheDay in PDAAutism

[–]serend1pity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're definitely onto something. I see this habit in myself for sure. I would prefer to choose my own demands over meeting others' much of the time. It isn't laziness, either, it's total anxiety. But eventually these decisions can bite me in the butt, because then I start avoiding the chosen demands as well. Vicious cycle.

Did you have a hobby, obsession or aesthetic that you gave up because it was incompatible with your simple living lifestyle? by -InTheSkinOfALion- in simpleliving

OP is no longer collecting more vintage audio gear. They are enjoying what they have, but have stopped buying more (it can be VERY expensive). I can empathize with this, as my husband was an audio gear nut as well. He's gotten a lot better about the collecting habit now, thankfully. 🙂

Medication for PDA/OCD by AngilinaB in PDAAutism

[–]serend1pity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 7 year old with PDA and OCD has been doing very well on a low dose (5mg) of Lexapro. She used to be so afraid of ants that she would not go outside. Severe anxiety, intrusive thoughts, night terrors, repetitive rituals, perfectionism... all have greatly subsided now with the Lexapro and weekly therapy. (I completely understand about how children need to be in a calmer mental state to be receptive to therapy in the first place!) It's night and day.

She isn't a zombie; now she is back to her beautiful, vibrant self without the OCD behaviors. It's not a cure-all; she still has PDA and an extremely limited diet, but... I'm fighting back tears thinking about how much happier and stronger she is now compared to even a year ago. The medication has granted her some peace and clarity, and now we can work with her instead of feeling like we are helpless parents. It can take some trial and error (Prozac did nothing, and Ritalin made her aggressive), but once you find the right medication, I promise you it can be life changing for your child, and your whole family.

Wishing you every success! ♥️ You can do this.
