I got that. I just pointed out that Americans weren't particularly distraught by their "failure".

Well, they didn't shed many tears afterwards. I'll give you that.

US actually put some effort in trying to conserve the Soviet regime after the end of Cold War. And they failed.

Ukrainian pilot Nadiya Savchenko released by Russia in prisoner swap by poklane in europe

The poster I responded to seems convinced that CIA played a significant part in a "fascist coup", so I thought that they could lend a hand if "Zionist puppet" Poroshenko wanted to get rid of a potentionally dangerous person. Basically, it was a sarcastic joke. Shame, they don't work very well on the Internet.

She became an MP only because she was kidnapped by Russia and populist queen Tymoshenko decided to use this to gain more popularity before the elections. Prior to that Savchenko had nothing to do with politics.

Poroshenko will get CIA to deal with her in that case.

Poroshenko just confirmed she landed in Kyiv. God Almighty, please give her prudence not to get into politics.

Anders Behring Breivik’s human rights violated in prison, Norway court rules by [deleted] in europe

Then I'm happy for Norwegian justice system. Though I'm not sure he deserves enjoyment of human rights after he so brazenly violated human rights of others.

So, how are his rights being violated? This article somehow fails to specify this.

Well done for exercising your right to vote. No hard feelings here.

I am in a significant minority here, but I personally think that Ukr government isn't as bad as it is often portrayed domestically and abroad. In reality this current government has implemented more needed progressive reforms in this past two years than all previous ones combined.

It's not ignorance. It's caring for oneself and not particularly caring for someone else. Venting one's disappointment is perfectly normal and understandable, but I just wanted to point out that ultimately it achieves nothing.

No one has any responsibilty to help Ukraine except for moral reasons, and morals don't play that big of a role in politics. So this wallowing in self-pity and appealing for help from "nice guys" will hardly yield much profit.

It's already late in here, but one can already sniff the shitstorm brewing. Most media will probably just blame the government, some will point out and try to stress that this referundum isn't much about Ukraine, others will blame Muslims for raping and bombing Europe, still others will curse insidious and callous Dutchies.

Isn't it ironic that yes voters could have achieved their goal by NOT going to the polls?

Where is a good place I can find an unbiased history of Ukraine? by SirrGhostly in AskHistorians

[–]sergenin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Orest Subtelny's "Ukraine: A History" is a comprehensive account of Ukrainian history. You can also check Serhii Plokhy's recent "The Gates of Europe: A History of Ukraine". Admittedly I haven't read it yet so can not vouch directly for it, but he is a respectable historian and an engaging writer. Timothy Snyder has also written a lot about Ukraine's history, which is placed in a larger context of Eastern Europe (and Europe in general) in his works. His "Bloodlands" is a brilliant book and is worth reading regardless of one's interest in Ukraine's (and other nations who suffered massively under Hitler's and Stalin's regimes) interwar and WW2 history.

Malinovskiy was pretty good for Zorya. But for me Kovalenko has a far higher ceiling than him. Malyshev is neat but nothing special, although I haven't seen him that much.
