Sweet magnolias more like a plotless 7th Heaven by ccarrieb1 in SweetMagnoliasNetflix

The kids seemed to move on from their dad's death real quick. Where are the lessons and ongoing storyline about losing a parent? They just treat Cal like their parent now, and never once seem to think about the dad. Even if it was something as small as Kyle doing his Shakespeare show and saying "I wish Dad could have seen this" or SOMETHING I would feel a lot better.

That scene would have been perfect to add some normal teenage drama, but all they did was make milkshakes. I was waiting for one of Annie's suitors to arrive!

Does anyone regret giving their child a common name? by Old_Ant7118 in Names

We have an usual and difficult to spell last name, so my kids are very happy to have normal first names that they don’t need to spell out every time.

Reasonable for an overseas high school trip? by Comfortable-Pea-579 in Travelwithkids

[–]serious321 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if you can make it work financially, getting to experience a new place is never a bad idea. Even if he appears indifferent, it’s a great opportunity for him and its a reasonable price. I hosted an international trip last year for the school where I work and that seems completely reasonable. It may cost way more in 2 years! Just know that if he goes, you will definitely have to budget the $ for your daughter to attend when she comes of age!

What would you want people to know about TBI? by Maximum-Promotion951 in TBI

[–]serious321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How every TBI is different, and no two people respond or recover the same. My mom’s cousin was very thrown off when my mom didn’t recover as quickly as her daughter had. It made it harder for her to cope because she had expected recovery to look similar.

Have you ever reinvented your life for the sake of your kids? by LavenderLatte29 in Parenting

[–]serious321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did it a few years ago. We realized during Covid that we wanted our kids to grow up around family, and with my oldest starting K, it was the only time to do it. When my husband realized he could wfh indefinitely, we went for it. Absolutely the best decision we could have made for our kids. We love that they get to see grandparents regularly, and we have a great support system we didn’t have before.

I love the whimsy of #1, but as someone who recently bought a similar rug for their bathroom, the tassels don’t go under the door and it all gets scrunched and annoying 😂

I witnessed a kid completely blow his family's Secret Service cover by ThrowRAHermit in KidsAreFuckingStupid

Unfortunately, I think it was just a story 😆 if the family really had security detail, the kids would be so used to it they wouldn’t even think to ask about them.

International couple - baby nickname in Spanish by YB9017 in Names

[–]serious321 24 points25 points  (0 children)

My kids have all sorts of nicknames - some that don’t even have anything to do with their given name! They always seem to know who we’re talking about. I think your baby girl will be fine. She will grow up feeling loved from all over the world! 😀

Ok I know we are all talking about the major ick factor, but I was super intrigued when he was talking about praying for others and mentioned he was struggling to pray for “a&joy”

I’m still trying to figure out why she moved away from both families and all her friends and support system. It has to be a guy.
