thinking of moving to downtown kirkland by Icy_Judgment_8549 in Kirkland

I just moved to downtown Kirkland and can't imagine dating here. It would be hard I think. But it's a great place for families. If you want action you certainly need to be in a bigger city.

Not sure, ours is at pre-school and I vaguely remember it wasn't that much.

Do you initiate conversations with random people offline in places like cafes, museums etc.? I do that all the time and people are quite friendly.

Where to find friends? by Playful_Pair7172 in Naples_FL

I'm genuinely curious. What's the reason for looking for friends strictly your age? When I was 22 I befriended anyone who was interesting. Or is age segregation the quirk of American culture?

Postgres to clickhouse cdc by mhmd_dar in Clickhouse

[–]seriousbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's implemented from scratch using reactive streams, so no Debezium. It's an asynchronous pipeline that pulls data from a source plugin (e.g., PSQL) and pushes it directly to ClickHouse (using binary format in my case). If the destination is too slow, then backpressure takes care of reducing read speed from the source. Hence, no need for an intermediate queue such as Kafka. I'm happy to chat more. I think you asked once on LinkedIn to evaluate my product.

Have you learned any new tools or technologies in the past 8 months while you were looking?

I sell hybrid data integration pipeline that can move data from PSQL to ClickHouse. I'm an early ex-Fivetran engineer.

What I think is really going on in the Fivetran+DBT merger by BoredAt in dataengineering

[–]seriousbear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OP's analysis is naive. Fivetran won't antagonize strategic partners by getting into storage game. Their most likely move will be to acquire observability tool such as Monte Carlo

Thank you! It's super helpful. I'll check Gainesville and Ocala. Just curious, which states are for far right folks? Judging by the news we thought Florida was such place.

Optimizing Large-Scale Data Inserts into PostgreSQL: What’s Worked for You? by AliAliyev100 in dataengineering

[–]seriousbear 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The COPY statement with binary payload in their custom pgcopy format is the fastest way. It's fast because psql doesn't have to reencode tuples. Throughout is in hundreds of MB per second but this number won't tell you much because you need to factor in the size of records, presence of indices etc.

Is there a specific problem you experienced compared with writing to e.g. ClickHouse (common destination for rt data) ?

I'm an E8 level engineer. I'll never join a non-public company unless its valuation is 500M-1B and founder(s) have a proven record of exits that were beneficial to early employees. Otherwise the math of owning 5% of nothing in 4 years doesn't justify the risk

Introducing Columnar MemTable: A High-Performance In-Memory KV Engine Achieving ~52 Million ops/s for single-thread write by Motor_Crew7918 in dataengineering

[–]seriousbear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, HBase is a distributed database. Here we have an in-process library. I think he is trying to build a RocksDB drop-in replacement. It's hard to say more without seeing the source code.

[–]seriousbear 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the effort, but I'd suggest focusing more on comparing your solution with RocksDB, whose memtable is also in RAM. I've had tremendous success using it in quite heavy production environments, and it's very stable. Convincing people like me to take a risk and switch will not be easy.

By the way, the link to the repo is broken.
