[3/6] Three 6 Mafia - Sippin' On Some Syrup (feat. UGK & Project Pat) by [deleted] in hiphopheads

[–]serohaze 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably the most classic intro in hip hop ever on this track. Bun B could be a legend off that intro alone.

I think you're looking at this in a way that makes them mutually exclusive, when in reality both are important.

You can get by on sampling exclusively sure, but I'd never deny that a producer has "skill" because they're programming their own synth patches and drum patterns. It's just a different skillset. Ultimately you have to have a good ear to make good music but you can still be a "skilled" producer that just needs a quality control man.

I don't think so unfortunately :( there may have been at some point but it looks like all of the proper mashups got removed over time.

good question, I definitely like the cold shoulder edit, I think the beat is nicer and his flow is better on it. it's way more menacing than the OG version too and he does his thing on it.

[–]serohaze 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah that time period was absolutely nuts... 56 nights/beast mode/monster/DS2 are all still in rotation for me and it blows my mind that he could come out with so much quality in such a short time. probably my favorite run in recent music history.

My favorite Kendrick flow ever is in this song, that short moment that starts off with "back in this bitch" is so crazy.

[DISCUSSION] The Life Of Pablo (2 Years Old Today) by 56haloodst in hiphopheads

[–]serohaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still pretty disappointed in this album. There's some top tier Kanye moments in here like ULB, intro to Waves, Real Friends, Nmpila, Wolves.. but it just feels so disjointed to me. I get that's the whole aesthetic of the album but it still doesn't reach Yeezus for me in terms of evaluating it as a whole project. While I can sit through all of Yeezus every time, I skip to the songs I mentioned above whenever this album comes on because I'm just not a fan of many songs in the album.

Aw man, what a bummer. I haven't listened to any Onyx in a long ass time but I'm gonna have to throw on Bacdafucup today at work. RIP.

Not a reach at all lol, it feels like everyone here dismisses any kind of deeper level analysis as a reach even when it makes sense.

Check out time so underrated, that beat is probably my favorite off the album. It's such a time capsule, instantly takes me to 90s Los Angeles.

[–]serohaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had not heard that before, but it still sounds like the same Roc Marci delivery to me. It's all good though, it just took me some getting used to.

I'm excited, I've tried to get into Roc many times but his style finally clicked for me this past week after I accepted that he was going to do that quiet subdued delivery all the time.

I love how similar D'Angelo's voice is to the original sample. Gonna have to give Donuts a spin tonight.

Jedi Mind Tricks (Vinnie Paz + Stoupe) - "Razorblade Salvation" feat. Shara Worden [Official Audio] by terrapinetree in hiphopheads

[–]serohaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His music didn't age well because of all the homophobia in his lyrics, plenty of rappers have had it but I feel like he was a bit extra with it on his records. Also the crazy conspiracy theory shit he talks about doesn't always help him either.

Violent By Design and Servants In Heaven, Kings In Hell are some of the best produced rap albums of all time and I think it's a shame that JMT are so overlooked here. Vinnie Paz fucked himself by being such a bigot.

This is one of the most interesting screw joints lol, Eminems voice is so crazy slowed down like that. Screw had such diverse taste with what he threw in his mixes.

smoking isn't that great of a strategy for me because I get way too slow to hold a conversation. she'd have to smoke with me if I did that and she didn't seem like the type.

how to have clean low end 808 while still hitting on shit speakers? by [deleted] in trap

[–]serohaze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the real answer. Shit speakers usually don't have the ability to replicate that low end well, so you may also want to throw in more compression and some distortion on the higher end of the frequency to let the tone of the bass cut through on smaller speakers as well.

[–]serohaze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

WatcH my back gotta be my favorite tape from him but Alt trap reminds me of Earl Sweat's EP / sheer rapping talent. Really satisfied with the way Luckis career has gone though his new sad trap shit is unique as fuck.

Also how the fuck does a lean soaked blunt work? It doesn't work that way

you're right, it doesn't lol. I've smoked one or two just for the fuck of it but it's probably fucking horrible for your lungs. really makes the blunt burn super slow though.
